Howdy everyone,

I am upgrading Aftica with a Nmea2000 network and I have the Garmin starter kit which comes with the powered backbone cable to supply 12v to the network. I understand that the black is ground and the red is positive. There is also a a braided shielding of wire that comes out and I would guess needs to be attached somewhere. Would this be attached to a grounding block?

See pick for detail

Thanks for any and all help!

Goes to the same block that all your green wires go to. Just set this up on my boat too - same kit (Garmin starter). I had to "phone a friend" in the middle of that installation to ask the same question!

Generally it's the same grounding wire as the black grounding wire and is tied together inside the outer sheath

Also, grounding braid should be attached at one end only - never hook it up at both ends.
