Nitrogen is becoming very popular in our area. Tire pressure is supposed to stay the same, reguardless of temp. This could make a big difference in hot weather blow outs.
Has anyone used nitrogen, and did it make a difference?

Local Chevy dealer in the area will replace air with nitrogen for $10.00

We went with the special 78% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon mix. In our area this is even more popular then pure nitrogen.

Can you get this in your area?

The only thing we have seen is some dealerships are offering nitrogen. Not sure if it is pure or what. I've researched it, on line, from what Ive seen, if you buy new tires and it is offered free, use it, it won't hurt a thing, if you have to pay extra, use air. Time spent checking and keeping proper air pressure in tires is worth more than the nitrogen.
I just wondered what this group thought, and if there were real numbers on heat running nitrogen or air.

I recall reading that nitrogen is also better since the molecules are bigger (i.e. wont leak out as quickly) and it has almost zero moisture. Regular air has some moisture component to it. However, I would NOT pay $10 for it. Thats just nuts IMO. Like Nicky said above, its probaby better to keep your tires inflated to proper pressure and get it for free. Its like buying bottled water vs. tap water for me.... (dont ask my wife that however). :)

You and Consumer Reports have the identical opinion. It isn't enough benefit to pay any money for.

Will you drive to a nitrogen equipped tire filling station every time you need to air up a tire?
