Hello everyone, recently purchased my first adventure into this size and class of boat, a 1995 Sundancer 290. I knew going into this that there would be some minor bugs and things I would have to work out and don't mind doing the work myself.
Along those lines, the aft bilge pump appears to not be functioning at all. I have read through several of the posts here before posting myself and will check for a fuse in the engine compartment area. The switch at the helm lights up when turned on but I don't hear the pump come on or see water being pumped out. There should be enough water in there to activate it from me washing the bilge down. Assuming it isn't a fuse, does anyone have any reccomendations as to how best to replace it? I have a single 454 engine and it appears to be located directly beneath the engine. Also not opposed to just installing a new one elsewhere in the bilge but not sure where to put it.
I'm also in the market for a new battery charger..any thoughts?
Having water pressure issues when using the onboard water pump. Tried a few fixes like hooking up a water hose from the dock and purging air. Still no luck..pump is running but water comes out in a trickle from faucets and transom shower. Pump seems noisy.
Scheptical of whther or not the pump is running in the sump box..need to investigate that before I have wet carpet in the cabin.
If anyone has any additional advice or helpful comments I would love to hear them. My family and I are excited and looking forward to many weekends on the water, just got to get her right and put in a little time and effort to that end.
UPDATE: After hanging upside down in the bilge and snaking my arm under the engine I determined that there are actually two small bilge pumps and two output hoses. Only one of the two comes on and that is the one attached to the high water float switch. This seemed like good news at first but after a lot of debris removal the pump still didn't have enough power to actually pump the water out of the bilge. Tomorrow I will be buying a new pump. Consindering buying a second self priming pump that I can mount higher up out of the bilge and drop a feed line and strainer down into the bilge. I'll connect the output side to the second orignal output line. That type of pump is a little pricey but much more efficient and useful for other things should the need arise.
Probably going to order a new charger from Jim at Pro Mariner tomorrow. Others may have differing preferences but there's something to be said for access to support and customer service. I got Jim's number off of this site and left him a voicemail. He called me back in less than an hour and was eager to help. Thanks Jim.
