Hello All,
I am Jeff from CT. I just got my first boat; a 1979 SRV 190 BR with a Merc 165 inline 6. I traded it for a ’94 Honda Accord with a blown head gasket. I hope it was a good decision! I finally got it home after replacing the trailer axle, then jumped right in. When I was poking around I found some soft spots so needless to say I’ve already got the upholstery and carpet gutted. I was hoping all I had to do was clean it up but now I plan on redoing the entire floor, seats, side panels and transom. I know it’s a lot of work but I want to do it right ONCE. I have to replace the starter which I’m putting in tomorrow. If I get it running it will be just in time to winterize it :smt009. Then in the spring the motor gets pulled and construction begins. That will give me all winter to prepare ideas and gather materials. I would love some advice for this. Some do's and don’ts, material suggestions, ideas, or anything in between. I’ve been doing tons of research only to have more questions stirred up. At this point I have a bare floor and am wondering if the foam injected in the floor needs to be replaced. Is the foam waterproof or just a huge sponge? Do I need to get it out to do the floor or work around it? Thank you in advance.

Hey Jeff welcome to the site! Nice project boat, doesn't look to need to much work other than some TLC! There's a ton of info here & the people are great to chat to.

I guess the only thing I can say is to take your time & have fun with your restoration work. I enjoy working, tinkering & upgrading our "classic" just as much as actually using it (which we didn't do much of this year).

I don't know for sure... but I'd bet the foam isn't water proof. I may be wrong but if anything I'd try & keep it dry (if it's in good shape) if at all possible to keep from having to replace it.

Keep us posted on your progress! Pic's too!
