Hi new to this site and quite new to boating.

Have a 1995 boat with v drives lying in spain.

Looking at changing manifolds risers, as in saltwater. As heard it can be one day waking up qand engine dead.

Can i ask silly question how do i check to see if FWC or RWC

what are the signs for changing manifolds risers.

Also how easy to change as struggling to find a good mechanic.

Also is it best to buy mercruiser genuine parts, any advice greatly welcome

If your Fresh Water cooled you will see a cylindrical "heat exchanger" with large seawater hoses for cooling water in/out, a removable radiator type cap, and usually an expansion/recover tank containing coolant. Some systems do cool the exhaust manifolds and some don't. See if there are two smaller hoses going into each manifold (coolant in and coolant out).

I don't have the same system as yours, but from what I understand the biggest indicator of condition is the joint between the manifold and riser. You may want to separate that joint and inspect.

Very good advice from Jimmy Buoy. As stated the seal between the manifold and riser is easy enough to replace and you can then check the internal condition of the parts (somewhat). If you have fresh water cooling, the heat exchangers are very accessible at the front of the motors and the overflow bottles are opaque plastic and easy enough to fill to the recommended level. Maintenance is not too hard, but there is not much room to do anything without hanging upside down on the engine covers. Feel free to email with any questions.

Took my manifolds and risers off a year ago to inspect. Found out they were Stainless Steel and in exellent shape.. Really didnt have to take them off but at least now I know they are clear and Stainless......

old messages deleted feel free to contact or better yet post questions and that way everyone can chime in. There are some really knowledgeable people on this site. Best of luck with your boat, I love mine and would be happy to tell you what not to do as I've screwed up plenty over the years...
