Hello All,

I am the new to me owner of a 2005 340 Sundancer. Not new to boats, but new to sport cruisers and Sea Rays. So far I have enjoyed getting to know the boat...but I have a couple issues I was hoping to address from you experienced folks...

1. Generator was working and now will crank over but not start. The boat was in transport and out of the water since the last time it worked. The light on the Panel for the "on" generator button isn't lighting up...thoughts??? Do I need to prime it again? If so how?

2. I am getting some stupid codes on the STBRD engine. The smartcraft gave me an overspeed and put the engine into guardian mode when I was only at 1K RPM just barely moving...otherwise the engine looks good and has good oil PSI and temp... BLK Lo and Hi came on the same time during this period.

3. Ok silly as can be...how do I open the forward cabin hatch? I unlatched it but I can't get it to pop open and don't want to break it :) :smt021

I am sure I will have many more. I tried searching the forum and couldnt quite get what I need...hope to hear from you all. Look forward to being an active member.

Thanks!

Generator-I am going to assume it is a Kohler 5ECD based on the year and boat model. On the front control panel of the actual generator, there is an ON-OFF-AUTO button. Right beside that there is a breaker. That breaker may be tripped. Simply off and back on. This happens to me if I try to restart too soon after shutting down for some reason. Off and back on, and start right up.

Hopefully, others can speak to your other issues.

Side note.... don't crank the generator for too long. Try to start it, and if it doesn't start, let it sit for 20-30 seconds before trying again. If you crank and crank, you can inadvertently pull water into the cylinders and/or hydro lock the engine. You can find more info in the various threads here about starting procedures for your specific module.

Edit - See this thread regarding over cranking, water ingestion, siphon break, and the secondary thread referenced in one of the posts.

Thanks for the quick responses.

It is a Kohler 5KW. I did previously check the on/off at the actual genset. It was switched off - which was odd. I switched it on and checked the breakers and nothing. Should it be in auto? I didn't see an auto actually before.

I have been careful of over cranking. Thank you for the tip. I only tried for about 5 to 10 seconds and then let it sit for awhile before again. But when I sea trialed it cranked up and started very quickly - leading me to believe something was not right the first time.

Thanks for the link - i will read that thread as well.

So there are three settings on the actual engine switch? Off, On, and Auto? I swear the switch only went up or down for on and off. Hmm...

To complicate matters even more - i know the switch at the genset was "off" when I first tried to start it and it cranked over remotely from the panel. That sounds like that shouldn't be the case.

Got that same setup. No auto. Spring loaded crank rocker switch on genny. If it cranks and doesn't start it's probably the choke. Change out your spark plugs just for the hell of it. Manually close your choke and crank it then. Engine vacuum closes it and the electric part opens it.

Just close the sea cock, for now, until you get it to fire up
