Recreation

  • Parks and other open public spaces, except playgrounds and other areas of congregation where social distancing cannot be abided
  • However, golf courses are not essential and cannot have employees working on-premise; notwithstanding this restriction, essential services, such as groundskeeping to avoid hazardous conditions and security, provided by employees, contractors, or vendors are permitted and private operators may permit individuals access to the property so long as there are no gatherings of any kind and appropriate social distancing of six feet between individuals is strictly abided
  • Marinas, boatyards, and recreational marine manufacturers, for ongoing marina operations and boat repair/maintenance, where such facilities adhere to strict social distancing and sanitization protocols. Use of such sites for the purposes of personal use or operation of boats or other watercraft is permissible, provided that no establishment offer chartered watercraft services or rentals. Restaurant activity at such sites are limited to take-out or delivery only.

This is good news for those of us buried in marinas waiting to drop.

Hopefully others will follow Cuomo's lead. It would be nice if all the Great Lakes could get on board together.

Since Mass is in the same re-opening group as NY, NJ & CT hopefully the same will be true for us. Unfortunately our boat is at a closed boatyard locked inside a storage shed in NH, behind a 70’ Huckins yacht, so we aren’t in the clear yet.

My boat is in RI for the winters and I am from MA. I went there today ( after being there for the past 3-4 weekends with no issue) to do my final day of prep to get in the water next week and was met by a police officer at the entrance turning me away because I was from out of state. I can only come there to leave with the boat or I would have to quarantine on the boat for 14 days. I tried to explain that I would love to leave with the boat but if he didn’t let me in to work on it then it can’t go in the water. He didn’t seem to care. Now I have to find a car with RI plates so I can get in the front gate to finish prepping the boat.

Thanks for the link. This is also good for the marinas and boatyards staying afloat.

Lucky ba****ds

Took mine off today and bumped into a few yard employees.

They’re not opening until the 15th of May due to the amount of restrictions they’d have to follow. Hopefully they’ll reconsider.

This is where I haul and store, but where I slip is opening on the 1st.

Either way it was good to get busy and see the old girl today.

I’m lucky. Got an early start on unwrapping and prep for season and got back in the water before they started really coming down on boatyards.
I’m usually in the water by April 1st anyway, and stay in until late November.
Makes for some cold weather outdoor work in March sometimes, but gives me a nice long season.
My dock is one canal over from the boatyard I haul and store at. I own the property where I dock, so I’ve had unrestricted access to my boat at my dock.

Where are you?

It’s been snowing sideways most of April in the southern Finger Lakes with only brief bouts of warmth.

It hit 55 yesterday with strong south winds but I had to get something done.

I was wondering how you were getting in and out.

Some MA boatyards are open, some are not, I guess it depends on how the owner interpreted whether or not the fell under "transportation" which is listed as essential. The boatyard I am at is open but there is no access to the building/bathrooms but they provided a porta potty.

Up until the other day it was a non issue. I was there the weekend before and there were a lot of people working on their boats so I assume someone complained.
I haven’t used the facilities there for about about a month now. Once there was no risk of freeze I put water in the tank and have been using the head on the boat and sink to wash up with. I just went to the boat and worked on it around it and then left.
The boatyard is finishing up resealing the rub rail at the stern, canvas guy is finishing the back half of the enclosure on the bridge and then a detail and it will hopefully go in next week. Then I can run it up to MA and my slip is at a private dock so no risk of not having access to it.

South shore of Long Island. We had high winds coming across the Bay yesterday making for frigid temperatures, but the cabin was nice and warm with the heat on.
I used the time to work under the canvas and do some cleanup in the cockpit.
Biggest problem around here the last month or so has been rain.
I took advantage of whatever nice days we did get to do my pre-launch prep.
I’m retired, so I can work around weather.
We’ve had a lot of rain all winter, but I do don’t think we’ve had accumulating snow since February of 2018.

You guys are lucky. This was my backyard Thursday.
