Just found out this week that my cousin was diagnosed with bone cancer and it has already spread to hi slungs an dlymph nodes......he is only 46!

So I resolve to live life to the max and ring every ounce of fun out of our 2010 boating season. I am so glad we chose to buy the 400DA last year rather than putting it off till later like we tend to do.

Wishing everyone the best for the 2010 year and boating season. remember - tomorrow is not guaranteed so live for the day

Sorry to hear that Glen...your plan sounds like a good one to me,and you've got a great looking boat to do it with Ric

Multiple Myeloma (a form of bone cancer) got my father two years ago. He managed to battle the disease for nearly 10 years though, after having been given a couple of month when first diagnosed. I wish your cousin the best in his fight.

I agree that you've got to squeeze every moment from today. I tell people that boating is a terrible financial investment, but its the best investment I've ever made in my family. My kids have grown up with it an we're a lot closer for it.

Very Sorry to hear this--our prayers.

And you are correct, life is too unpredictable if predictable at all. Wife and I were looking for a bigger house but late this year we decided to go with a bigger boat instead (With no coaching from me). The kids (9 and 5) love boating and it is great, if not the best family together time that I have found. We boat on the Great South Bay off Long Island. We anchor at Fire Island and walk to the Atlantic. My nine-year-old girl is swimming out as far as me and wants to go further; buggy boarding and now she wants a surfboard. My son (5) is becoming a champ on the wake board and is starting to body surf small waves. They never want to leave, hence the bigger boat. Now we can spend weekends there.

You cannot give up these memories. Our thoughts were, we could look back and say we remember the bigger house and nicer dining room set or the smiles on our children’s faces as they grew, learn, are active, share moments, meet new friends, with old dear friends and on and on and on.

Again, our prayers are with you and your family—I will asterisk this resolution on my list.

That's what boating is all about!

Glen, I hope your cousin keeps the faith and is able to share many years of pleasure on your boat!

Glen, you have all of my sympathy as I have lost some of my dear ones way too early... take your cousin on the boat with you as much as you can and you'll build up memories that will last for ever! I am 45 and my mother, at my age, already had cancer since two years...so you're right..we shall all just enjoy what life is offering to us!

There is one big reason for I do not sell my boat for a new one…all the memories and good times I spent on her with my loved ones!

(I hope my English is good enough for me to express my feelings:smt001)

So True - the best thing i have read all day. Happy new year everyone.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts - i will be sure to pass them on. I certainly plan to get them all out on our boat - live life. They were talking this summer of selling thier cottage and getting a boat - I hope they can follow through with that!
And I certainly agree with the comments about the value of boating for the family. Our kids are 17 and 14 and just love being at the boat as much as possible still - every vacation and ever week-end. It really has kept us together and enjoying friends and the outdoors - can't beat that!

Glen,

We have to live it bro. I have had the worst financial year of the last 30 years...but I lost 50 lbs and am in better shape than I have been since my 30s (I'm 57).

I learned in the last 2 weeks that my best friend for 25 years has stage 4 lung cancer and this past weekend his 20 year old daughter was killed in an accident. We have a mutual friend and the three of us have been together all week...reaching back...reconnecting and talking about life. We agreed that all the material things that we have won...lost and won again...are nothing in the total scope of life.

I look around this forum and there are guys that have 30 year old 18' bow riders all the way to new 60' Sundancers. Every one is as important as the next and each issue is just as big a deal as the next. That's what makes this forum great...a bunch of guys (and a few gals) come together for a few hours a week to share their passion for boating.

Thanks Jim for keeping it running.

So believe me Sea Ray buds...from now on....every day is a chance to be a better man...a better husband...and a better friend. That's my resolution and I will re visit it every day...so help me God.

Happy New Year

My heart goes out to the entire family and pray for his remission.

It is stories like this that make me realize
"There is just enough bad in my life to make me recognize how lucky I am"

I wish you all a Healthy and enjoyable 2010!!
