New Year in Key West

Ok, just confirmed and they are in....no brainier, free meal for them and then they go do their own thing.....So we have Brandon, Brittany, Adam and Stephan joining us....

Sound good. I'll call the restaurant tomorrow.

Hey Alex,

So I'm just curious (and a little jealous lol),
  • When are you leaving the NY area?
  • What route are you taking?
  • What do you expect to burn for fuel?
  • How long do you expect for the trip to take?

Truth be told I'm just in awe of the trip. I love Key West and just the thought of having your own boat there WOW.

Very HAPPY following seas and fair winds my friend.

John, PM sent.

Just sent you a PM.

I got a call from the SHOR restaurant management. They wanted to confirm our plans and mentioned that due to very busy time of the year, they might have to make some re-arrangements. Chances are, they’ll be putting us (party of 22) in a special area upstairs, one level up from the main restaurant level. They said that it will provide more privacy for our group and the views are even better with large windows overlooking the shoreline and the ocean. I was told that the area will be decorated for us to present festive feel.

Since most of us arrive to KW few days before the big night, we should go over and take a look at the setup, and make sure it’s to our satisfaction. This way we’ll have couple days to make any adjustment, if necessary.

The chef is still working on the menu, but so far the word is that it won’t be a prefixed one. They’re looking to limit their regular menu (in order they can accommodate large crowd) and add some specials as well. As soon as I’ll get the updated menu for the feast, I’ll pass it along.

I've been following your thread and very excited for you all. I'll be in Key West (first time) for New Year. Unfortunately, not making the trip in my little 260, but hope you all don't mind if I stop by the docks to meet some of you. I'll be two weeks out from hip replacement, so I'll be the guy with a cane (or at least a limp). Safe and fun trip to you all!

Hey Al,

You're welcome to come by anytime. If you want to ensure we're on board during your visit, PM me and we'll exchange the numbers for better coordination.

Damn I am jealous. I really need to buy a boat. Have fun all!

Thanks!

You've got the whole 2 weeks to buy a boat and join us.

AJ and I have reached the long awaited destination.
Mike (ididntdoit) won't make it to KW. But, the rest of the group should be here tomorrow. :smt038 The wind is slowly calming down. With 3'ers on the east coast, you guys should have a good ride. Safe travels, see everyone tomorrow.

Hey Mark,

I took my usual route, ICW from FTL via Miami. Then I went to No Name harbor for the night. From NNH I stayed inside up until the Channel 5, where I jumped outside until Duck Key. In case you'll go on the inside, keep an eye on AC hazard marks from buoys "76" to "84". I suggest to go to displacement speed and do this stretch nice and easy. I didn't watch the tide, as I know this section and it's fine for me.

From DK it was all outside. Faro and Marathon in general was a lot of fun.

Thanks Alex,

Thinking that we will run down Biscayne and go out at Angelfish. If the winds are still up any, at least they will be behind us.

I'd say you should expect mostly beem seas. Even though the wind was suppose to shift slightly, the seas have been mostly out of the ESE for the past two weeks, so the momentum remains unchanged, even with slight wind direction change. In any event, you'll be looking at mostly 3'ers and our boats take that with ease, especially at the beem.

When we started our trip, I was travelling in 20kts winds with 4-5'ers and it was not too bad. I think you'll do just fine, since the winds are slowly calming down.

Safe travels, Mark. Keep us posted if you find some new and interesting ports/marinas.

Mark,

You will be fine staying on the Florida Bay side. I took the same path as Alex on this trip but no need to jump outside if you are going to Faro Blanco. You will have a more comfortable ride on the bay side. I've run from Islamorada down to Faro Blanco and you have enough water. The only spot where the water gets a little skinny is when the channel crosses a shallow reef but at those locations, the channel is well marked. I've gotten used to seeing 4-5 ft on the depth gauge in these waters. The bigger problem is all the traps you have to navigate though.
Enjoy and maybe we will see you at FB...
