So I recently purchased my current boat knowing I would have some work to do on the genset. I pulled the raw water pump out and the heat exchanger and found more trouble then what was originally thought. That never happens right?

So here are a few pics on my new mounting rails made out of 2 x 4 1/8 wall aluminum. I bought the 2x4's in 36" lengths and cut them down to 25" and drilled all of the needed holes and such. Added new mounts and blocks then painted.

I am still cleaning up the rest of the genset and painting as I go, I should be complete this weekend. I also had to replace the ring gear and starter. Also boiling out the exchanger as well as full rebuild on the raw water pump, which created this mess. I will post the cleaned up job when I am done. I start this project the week of Thanksgiving. I thought I was going to complete it by the following weekend. It's taken a little longer than anticipated ...

Sky, I like the way you did that! I think it looks great. How did you attach the new "rails" to the boat? Also, what kind of rubber isolation devices did you use? Thanks for sharing, I'd like to do this too!

Thanks, a lot of work, but well worth it I think. Now sleeping on the mooring will be one less thing to worry about.

I was able to order the original isolators from westerbekegeneratorparts dot com. You will need the original westerbeke parts listing. I can email to anyone that needs it, just PM me, they emailed me a copy when I spoke with them about what I needed to order.

I used the original mounting holes from the old rails and lined them up on the new ones and drilled some holes. The old rails were 3-1/2 wide and 2-1/4 tall, so the 2x4 aluminum stock is pretty close. For me the engine bed's for the generator were glassed 2x4's on top of the floor originally by Sea Ray, so I was good there. And the height difference was not a problem. So in short, SS lags which were used by the original install I guess.
