never had anything re upholstered and i'm wondering if my cockpit seating that has all new vinyl, will tighten up, given time? its a bit loose fitting right now. i'm a bit disappointed.

Typically no, it won't tighten up any. I'd be unhappy too but the repair might not be more than removing some staples and tucking up the fabric a bit.

I wish I had your problem. It sounds like it should be easily fixed and I would think/hope the upholsterer would do the right thing and tighten it up for you.

To hopefully make you feel better, I spent $4,000 to have all my cockpit seats reupholstered by Captain Nunzio, a local boat upholstery shop here on Long Island, NY. He either pulled the vinyl too tight or used a dull needle (needle holes look large). The seams have started opening on all the seats. When I brought a seat back to his shop, he said it is not his fault, and maybe I put something heavy on the seat. I told him I did not put anything heavy on the seat and the same thing is happening to all the seats, not just the one I brought to his shop. I sent him pics and tried to be reasonable with him, but he is taking zero ownership of the problem and is trying to make it sound like it is my fault. I am now looking for a reputable upholsterer to fix his mistakes. I have a feeling they are not repairable without purchasing additional vinyl, because there is very little material stapled under the seats.

In the neighborhood I grew up in, Nick, Captain Nunzio would not get away with this. But, I am no longer a kid and have a lot more to lose than gain. I know I should take him to small claims court, but I work and travel a lot and making the time to go to small claims court could cost me a lot more than $4,000.

For the record, had he agreed to make it right and do the right thing on his poor workmanship, I would have helped him out financially on the purchase of additional vinyl. I guess this is what they mean when they say good guys finish last. Fortunately I believe in Karma, but I just wish I could be there to see the Karma work.

Unfortunately vinyl does not tighten over time...if anything it can loosen if not fitted properly from the start. I would take it back and ask them to fix it.
