New tow vehicle.

OK, I am first going to say that I would not necessarily suggest that anybody actually do this, unless you continually watch your boost gauge!!!! And even then, I am posting this more for the idea that this motor has HUGE un-tapped capabilities.

From the factory, the turbo will build around 12 - 15 lbs of boost. This is pretty low compared to what the charger will handle. A way to build extra boost is to simply "pinch" the waste gate. I know this will work for model years upto about 2002, I am not sure if you can still get to the waste gate on newer models (haven't looked at one recently).

The 5.9 litre is a scaled version of the M11 truck engine, including the charger. In a semi, this charger will build upwards of 36 lbs . I was told by the local Cummins shop, that the waste gate in the dodge p/u was set so low that alot of power is lost (they suggested around 20-22 lbs).

When you pinch the waste gate off, you have to always watch your boost gauge because the only way to release the pressure is to pull the throttle back...there is no safety release valve (that is what the waste gate is!!!). And believe me when you let off the throttle quickly at 36 lbs it will scare the s%$# out of you. It will sound like it is going to suck the hood and anything even close to it through the breather. (when I was truckin, I had a Signature 600 Cummins in my Peterbilt and did this pulling out of that hole in the ground they call Albuquerque and thought my Votox breathers were going through the sides of my hood) The key is to watch the gauge and not let it build over about 25 lbs.

Like I said to begin with, I would not really suggest anybody actually do this. We did it on a friends 02 just to see what would happen, and it was unbelievable. But I wouldn't want to drive it like that every day.

Here's the update pulled the boat for the first time since I bought the truck this weekend. WOW!! The difference between the hemi and the cummins, night and day. Its a short trip, about 25 miles for me to the ramp, up and down little hills. averaged 10mpg. But such a dream to drive, tow/haul mode, cruise control and never need look at the speed because the cummins just pumps away. Had full gas, water, and ice chest so had to be close 10000#s. Used the wd hitch going but when I dropped the bars before I launched I noticed the truck did not squat so I tried it with out the bars coming back, very little difference. This truck is much more than I could ever have expected. Long hauls will not wear me out know.

Allright! I'm glad it worked for you! I just picked up a 2007 F250 with the 6.0diesel. It idles a lot highter than my 7.3L diesel, and sounds a bit different, but man, pulls trailers like there not even back there! :smt038

Forget the Wt distribution hitch. Mr Cummins can handle that as long as your trailer is set up correctly. You should be able to set the cruise control and hold your speed except up the steepest climbs. You may want to find a longer route to go to the boat ramp from now on. Getting there is half the fun. Next go find that 7 percent grade and give Mr Cummins a little work out. Got to love that diesel smell.
