While the new cap you have may be correct for your engine, it appears that maybe someone along the line changed the distributor - which is why the new cap isn't matching up with the base. I think your best bet is going to be taking the boat (or possibly a few pictures) to a Merc dealer and let them look at it closer and get the right cap for you.
You may be lazy but you may be right. I am going to touch base with the marina as well. This is a tricky one. I will keep everyone posted as you are waiting in.....;.........anticipation.
Sometimes it's just easier to say "Please get me the correct part" :smt001 . You might pay a few dollars more, but then you're also paying for that person's time and you're guaranteed to get the right part.
I'm not sure what the thunderbolt V ignition looks like which is what u might have or someone converted it to a modern ignition system like the Delco Voyager EST Marine Electronic Distributor Kit
You got me. The title says it is a sun dancer but my wife says it is a pre sun dancer. All I know is it is a lot bigger than our 26 ft 8 ft beam sea ray all 4 of us visited. It was great when the kids were smaller but they lied and grew up. We are so fortunate to have this one now and the gotchas are very manageable.
Every time I get on the old boat to get it ready for sale I feel claustrophobic and wonder how we survived the past 8 years. She was a great boat but we outgrew her and hope someone will come along and have as much fun as we did.
so we are still working on the boat between life obstacles and got the distributor cap replaced finally. Changed the oil in the engines.............boy did they need it. Dropped off the canvas to get re-sewn. I am finding some odds and ends to repair and was wondering where I may be able to get a replacement hatch guide. one side broke off and the hatch keeps coming off the tracks. I have been looking all over the interweb and nothing so far. Gonna go to marine store and check. I am trying to upload a pic of the guide but having some trouble.
