Hey everyone my name is Chris. My Wife Kris and myself arent new to boating however we are new to the Sea Ray family almost.
We are looking at trading our 1991 Corvette Convertible for a 1985 26ft Sundowner and we are dong a bit of research.
Can any members here give us there opinion of the Sundowner.
God or bad. What we should look at. What are known issues. The boat we are looking at has 400 hrs on a 265hr Mercruiser with an OMC Lower drive unit.
Please let us know what you think. The guy is sayung the boat appraises at 11900.00 Is that close to the price it should be.
Its in really good shape. Carpet upholstery is New inside. Never wrecked the boats outside is a bit faded.
Is the OMC drive a good drive unit.
Please get us INFO

Hi Chris, and welcome to the site!

Do you mean you are looking at a 26' Sundancer? Sundowner is another brand, I believe.

I would specifically avoid OMC drives, not because they aren't good drives, but because they went out of business in 1996. The parts are becoming hard to get and expensive, and techs with OMC experience are becoming less prevalent.

Good luck finding your boat!

John

:thumbsup:Welcome! Think about this, has your corvette ever left you stranded in the water,.?
I've been stranded on the highway and in the water. More boaters will help other boaters than drivers will help other car drivers.
I had an old bayliner, before upgrading to Sea Ray,that left me dead in the water a few times. I still look back on those days, of being towed in,as a great day on the water!.

Pretty sure Four Winns makes a Sundowner. Use yachtworld.com or other 4sale sites to compare asking prices but I'm thinking $11,900 will get you the real deal........A Sea Ray Sundancer.

As a side ...... One thing the low hours may indicate is that the boat has been dry for a long time. Not always a good thing.

We bought a 24' last year this time for $5900 including the shorelender trailer. Had to put new seals in the top end of the drive and replaced the trim senders and bellows etc., but that was no big deal for me. I think we got a really nice boat for what we put into it. $11,900 sounds a bit high with todays market.
