Hello folks,

I have been lurking around on the board for a while now and absorbing all that I could regarding the Sea Ray that I was looking for. I finally made an offer on a 1997 230BR Signature Select. It has the 7.4L Bravo 3 combination with 450 hours on it. The hull looks great and all the components of the boat are there. The previous owner has always stored the boat in his boat house in Muskoka and most of the time was on a lift.

I haven't pulled the trigger completely. Obviously living in Toronto, ON I cannot take it for a water test so I have put a deposit on it pending a successful water test.

I would appreciate anyone with advise on what to look for over the next little while so that I can be well advised going into the closing. I am looking at some time in April to seal the deal!

Very excited!

Cheers,

Mike

Hopefully someone can provide some info based on experience for you. I know when we first bought our 220 OV I thought there was something wrong with the hull because of the severe list to starboard when it was on a plane. I later learned, through the forum, that it was just a matter of a trim tab adjustment to straighten it out and that they were all like that.

Good luck with yer new ride.

If you are spending more than $10,000 I would strongly suggest a hull survey and an engine survey. Speaking from experience. Seventh time we took her out, bam. $1,700 to fix the lower unit.

It had 320 hours on it. Boat was and still is in excellent condition. Looks aren't everything.

Sad thing was I bought the boat from a dealer in December but with the condition of a 30 day warranty starting the day they dewinterized the boat. Picked it up in April, 40 days later bam. They would not work with me.

Thanks for the advice. I have had the boat surveyed and the surveyor said that it was in great shape. Little needed to commission for spring. I will have the engine looked at prior to sale completion once the weather gets better. Compression test and leak test.
