New to boating Live in Erlanger need help 92 Searay 200

thats because you westsiders never knew there was an east side to Cincinnati!: grin:

How right you are!!! I grew up more on the north side of the city and my wife is from Dayton. We moved here because we both work downtown and the commute is 10 minutes. Everyone over here acts like you need a passport to go eat dinner in northern KY or anywhere on the eastside. I am over on the eastside often during the fall and spring for sports. People over here think I am nuts when I tell them we are going to dinner in Crestview Hills, KY or Bellevue, KY!

Lot's of Cincinnati boaters on this site. You need to post some pics of your boat as well so we know who you are when we spot you on the lakes. I'd recommend one of the smaller lakes around here (East Fork or Brookville) for your first time out rather than the river. Current, debris and barge traffic can pose a challenge to a newbie on the river. Plus, you will hit some large wakes from some very big cruisers that you will likely never see.

Also, stay away from the river for the fireworks over labor day weekend. One of the biggest party scenes any place but no place for a new boater. It is absolutely nuts with boat traffic. Bad things will happen.

I have ran across your 290 a few times earlier in the season from a distance. Very nice looking boat. Some day I will graduate to a cruiser like that, but for now I will stick to the sport boat. I have my eye on the 250/270 SLX next!!! There is a nice one in the Kent's Harbor Marina up there. Saw it while tooling around up there last Monday.

Well get out there and get some practice!! I didnt mean to discourage you. Just be very careful. Especially at night when headed back to the ramp. It is a madhouse scene. We use to make a point of staying out VERY late so we didn't have to deal with traffic. At least the river conditions will be perfect. Should be little current if it doesn't rain and raise the level. Get to know safe levels for the river. Don't try to go between the raft ups perpendicular to the river current. You will likely end up in someones anchor line.

Hauled my 290 to the WEBN fireworks last year. Everyone on my boat had a blast drinking beer and watching the mayhem. I stayed totally sober and was a nervous wreck for the most part. Wind blowing in the direction of the current and nobody's anchor was holding. I wound up in the river untangling some guys anchor line from underneath my boat. Glad we went as it is quite an experience....will not do it again soon. Here is a youtube video I put together of the event. The trip back the the marina in the dark after the show was nuts ! (unfortunately not on the video).

I've been boating for over (25) years. The most important thing a newbie needs to learn is to stay as far away from other boats as possible and to mind your wake. I know a lot of nice guys who get really pissed off when some idiot, plowing water, veers closer to show off boat and causes problems with the wake.
