hi guys/gals i am new to this so forgive my lack of all this. ok i need info on restoring my 1982 255 sea ray it needs both outdrives nothing there but i need to know it they have to be setup for counter rotation or can they both be standard rotation? i think the gear ratio needs to be 1.85 but what about the rotation and the prop size and pitch, the boat is almost 26, and has a fly bridge. any and all info would be great this seems to be the place to for it since no one else has any good info i even went to sea ray website and they don't go back that far. once again any help would be great.:smt021

Welcome. You will find factory information hard to come by. I have learned that sometimes you just have to figure it out.

Do a search on 255s here on CSR and you might get a few hits. I have a 86 300DB, so I can't really help you with the outdrives.

Good Luck and welcome.

I know it's kind of like starting at the end and working your way back, but if you can come up with a realistic expected top speed and you know the drives are 1.85:1 then with info on the engines a reasonable "guestimate" could be made for the prop pitch.

ok thanks i will do a search on 255s here and see what comes up, and to be honest i don't really know what a reasonable top speed would be one guy told me between 40-45 i thought that was great for a boat that size and with such small power plants. hey what is the difference between a knot and a mph?? told ya i was clueless.
