Hey all

Thought some of you may be interested in looking at some pics of the new swimstep that my wife and I built.

The old one was fiberglass, full of holes and was only 19" deep. We wanted on about 30", so it was time to build. Over all, I'd say it turned out pretty well and now I'm working on the brackets for it....welding aluminum is challenging task.

There are a few things I'd do differently.
  1. Waterproof glue- This one was kind of stupid on my behalf...should have thought about that one:smt013. It is glued and screwed, so failure of the glue isn't the end of the world. If it totally fails then I can pull it all apart this coming winter and reglue the right way.
  2. I should have spent more time planeing all the pcs to uniform widths. I was able to adjust as I went, but would have been easier to start with all of the same sizes. Even a slight variation of 1/16" started to effect the curve after stacking up a few rows. Measure adjust, measure adjust...you get the picture.
  3. I'd also keep my screw holes farther than one inch from the end of the pcs. Had a few split out on me.
Other than that, I felt it turned out pretty well for building one for the first time. Couple more coats of oil and she's ready to mount. Enjoy.

Wow! Nice work!
