My block has corroded and I am checking on getting a new small block, or getting a certified engine to replace, depending on cost . I am leaning towards a small block, since I have almost everything new from try to solve a overheating problem, which some of you have helped me with. My question, my mechanic said I should look into replacing the 5.0 Bravo MPI 305 CID with a 5.7 350 CID. He said it would not cost that much more. Also what would the average labor be to pull parts from my old engine onto my new small block?? or how many hours to do? Thanks

When I had my 260 I put a brand new marine long block in and it was not that much more money. I don't trust rebuilders these days.

I agree with Mike. I just had a new long block installed. They changed for 20 labor hours plus I have a two year warranty on the engine.

Are the 5.0 parts compatible with the 5.7 block? If so I wouldn't hesitate for a second to upgrade, you'll be very glad you did. On the other hand, if you have to start throwing away good 5.0 parts because they won't bolt onto the 5.7, it could get a lot more costly.

I don't see why they wouldn't. I think the bolt patterns in the exhaust may have changed. easy to check.

Pretty sure most if not all the parts are compatible the 5.0 (305ci) and 5.7 (350ci) share the same engine block. Check everything out to be sure, but I would definitely go wit the 5.7 over a 5.0, you are looking at at least 20 more hp. Also, look at a complete package vs a long block. By the time you spend the time and $$ to switch old parts over to the new engine, you might be better off. That way you get a turn key package with warranty etc.
