I just picked up the new 2010 Sport Yacht Brochure from my dealer. My 38 Sundancer is now obsolete, it has been replaced by the new 390 Sundancer  ....same boat.

I guess that Sea Ray believes that the new number designations will enhance the perceived value of their line.

Here is the entire new Sport Yacht Line:

...... 2009........................2010........

38 Sundancer -------- 390 Sundancer
40 Sundancer -------- 40 Sundancer
--- N/A -------------- 450 Sundancer (new this year)
43 Sundancer -------- 470 Sundancer
48 Sundancer -------- 500 Sundancer

36 Sedan Bridge ------ 390 Sedan Bridge
44 Sedan Bridge ------ 450 Sedan Bridge
47 Sedan Bridge ------ 47 Sedan Bridge

Once again Sea Ray plays the name game. :smt101

Pretty soon my 300 will be the new 500! I'm sure there is some reason for the changes in the designation, but if it's from the same mold and has the same layout? That's hard to figure. They did the same thing in the early 90's renaming many boats with a two foot longer designation.

I am now calling my 280 SA a 310 SA. It makes me feel wealthier.

I saw a 390 sundancer at the yard, new decals as well, I looked twice and figured they changed the number. I thought the 45 sedan bridge (aka 420 & 44) would have phased out, its been around for some time now.

I believe (or rather SR's party line is) that they are re-naming to meet EU requirements, i.e. name based on overall length (LOA) and not waterline length (LWL). Hence a 280 becomes a 310!

This has been discussed in previous threads. Really, you guys are making a big deal out of nothing. For example, when you trade your 38DA in a few years for a new 570DA, simply replace your 38 decals with 410 decals (or equivalent current model designator, your 38 could be a 48DA in a few more years) and have the dealer base your trade value on the current model designation :)

 If you ask a women 40 is the new 30 that is why they cost so much..
