Hello CSR,

I'm the new owner of a 2000 Sea Ray 180BR, and since my boat came from a different state/country, I'm in need of new registration letters. Does anybody know of a font that looks good next to the Sea Ray logo?

The reason I'm asking is that I'm coming from a 94 Bayliner 1750 Capri which had letters matching the Bayliner logo, and it looked pretty sick.

Thanks,
Dan

Not sure about your state but in Oregon the numbers and letters are required to be of a block style of contrasting color. I personally perfer more personality but my Neighbor has been taged with a more personal font.

Just my .02, if you do find it, please post it since i am looking to add a name on the back of our 260 and the font would be perfect.

I think it all depends on how far from "block" you stray. And, of course, the particular officer. We sell letter/number packs that are just rounded-off a little (Hardline Products). They do come in various colors, but I always warn customers to make sure they completely contrast with the boat color. To date, no one has ever come back and said they had a problem.

Another avenue is to take a picture of the Sea Ray logo and go to a local sign maker. They'll need to beef up the font a bit, I think the actual Sea Ray font is too thin. Should cost about $30 for them to make reg #'s for you. Might as well get them to make your boat name, too.

I changed mine when I purchased my boat last year. I ordered them fom Overtons website. I used the boat lettering option, not the registration number tool. I ordered 3" letters with a 'brush regular script'. I ordered 2 sets and it was around $30. Ohio says block letters, however I have been close to many state boats as well as boarded by the Coast Guard for a safety check (passed) and have not had any issues. That being said they are technically not legal so I could be sited. Here are some pics:

By the way, I just checked the back of the Hardline packages hanging on the wall at the store. It says Coast Guard Approved. FWIW.

I do not know what the coast guard would say but I have never had any issues from the Tennessee Wildlife officers.

I was boarded by the Coast Guard on Lake Erie over the 4th of July and they checked all safety gear and registration info as well as checking the letters and did not say anything about the ones in the pics I posted above.

They must be more anal in Oregon, My neighbor was actually ticketed, however his were really artistic.

Thanks for all the replies!

I've been looking around and came across this font: Juergen Italic
It's about the closest in appearance I have seen so far, though not as smooth and less cursive than the Sea Ray logo font.

If you want the exact thing, re-read the second paragraph in post #4.

I've called around locally, and I've been quoted a minimum of 2 hours at $70/hr to up a design based on the Sea Ray logo, plus printing costs... not worth it!

That's amazing. Amazingly high. What if you just walked in and tried to match it up with something they already have? The place down the street from us has always been very good to deal with... but they're not exactly "down the street" from you.:smt101
