The delivery of my new boat has been delayed because of four new items that are being installed on the model for the first time and they have to go through a installation certification for the first build. I'm still trying to decide whether I am lucky or unlucky about the new features. Here's the message from the factory regarding the delay:

Installation of DTS controls
Installation of the new Vessel View
Installation of the new Kohler generator gauges mounted in the MDP
Installation of new CO Monitors that will be tied into the generator (if the CO monitor alerts, the generator will shut down)
DTS Certification

They are already shipping the 48's and larger with DTS, so I am not as concerned about that technically, but I am concerned as whether I will like it in use. I really do like the "Golden Knobs" and don't know how I feel about loosing them.

I have no idea about what Vessel View is? Any ideas? It's not listed on the Sea Ray web site as an option or a feature.

I have read about a second set of generator gauges being mounted in the engine compartment and I am assuming that we that's what they are referring to in this case. Any idea what MDP stands for in this instance?

The auto shut down of the generator sounds like a great feature, especially if you use the AC at night when you're out on the hook, I'll be interested to see how it works in actual use.

Any comments or feedback is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Greg

"VesselView" is the new Smartcraft display, it replaces the SC5000 display. From what I've seen, it looks pretty cool.

Sounds like you are getting all the new toys.

Keep us posted!

With Vessel view you'll be able to add cameras to watch your wake, the engine room, underwater activity whatever. It will all feed to the chartplotter as will the Sat TV

My YC neighbor has it on his new Cruisers 50, slick ...

Vessel View

I need to post some pictures, but I can tell you that it is a significant upgrade over the pervious smart craft display. All of data screens are grouped intelligently and you can flip through three groups by touching a related discreet button. The color display appears to work well in bright sunlight. I haven't attempted to use it at night, but I assume that it function well in those conditions.

Let me start by saying that Vessel View is OUTSTANDING. It takes all of the functionality that was in the old Smartcraft and places in into a new color display with a larger screen. And to make it easy to use, it groups all of the information that you would like to see in four basic groups that you can access by the push of one button. You have the ability to add groups, or modify the existing groups but I haven't seen the need to as of yet. The groupings are well thought out and the easy access makes moving through the pages effortless and quick. One of the definite draw backs to the older smart craft was how long you had to take you eye off the water to find the page you needed. As I understand, Vessel View will find its way on all new Sports Yachts and larger.

I was pretty concerned about using the DTS control for docking. I had come to know and love the "golden" knobs and had become quite proficient at standing with my back to the controls as I backed my boat into it's home slip. So far, my experience with DTS has been very pleasing.

DTS has a "docking" button that you push that I assume reduces engine RPM's. So far, it's worked like magic and I am very pleased. For cruising it has engine synchronization built in and with one push of a button you are all set. I can believe how much of a difference the synchronization effect has on the boat, both in performance and fuel efficiency. DTS also allows you to change the control to use just a single lever once under way as opposed to the dual levers for port and starboard engines. My only complaint on DTS is the lack of documentation. Nothing in the owners manuals and nothing on the Mercruiser web site.

I will post some pictures of both Vessel View and DTS.

It is nice feature but I wouldn't like to see if it realy works. It's like checking if your air-bags work.

I agree....the DTS contros are the way to go. I have them on my 36 Sedan bridge, and although there was a little bit of a learning curve to get used to them.....after a few weeks, I wonder how I lived without them!
The 36 Sedan Bridge also has the Multiplex power distribution center (10" touch screen instead of the breaker panels). The touch screen controls everything from starting the generator to turning on/off anylights or electrical systems on the boat. Very easy to use system.

Let's say it's easier figuring out how to dock the boat than figuring out how to reduce the size of all of those 2MB photos that I have that are too large to post to the web site.

(Another fine example of technology. My first digital camera took 640K photos that were perfect for posting on a web site or attaching to a web forum, but they were just total crap if you wanted to print out a photo. New camera, humongous MB's, perfect prints, but you have to jump backwards to post them. Of course looking at the bright side I only had to stay in a Marriot for 180 nights to get the new camera!)

Hokiesfan-
You can post the pics for free to a site like flickr and then just link to them here...

Sounds like a really, really nice boat. Congratulations! Am sure we will see you guys on the river...perhaps I can trade a new 40DA tour for a frosty beverage aboard Truly Blessed II?
