Been reading all the posts lately about smells and water in AC pans, gray water boxes, sumps and so on. I was always 'bugged' by the way the standard Rule floats and pumps in the gray water box wouldn't evac enough water out thereby leaving standing water prone to become a source for odors and overflow to sump areas farther aft. A few weeks ago after reading a CSR post, I also installed one of the automatic pumps with the integrated switch. it does seem to pump down the water to a lower level when the float switch is activated but what I really like about it is the pump stays on for another 15 seconds AFTER the float switch deactivates taking the water down alot lower than the other pumps.
We did a lot of cruising this past weekend and when we were buttoning up to leave for the weekend, there was no water in the rear sump area from overflow and the gray water box just had a little. I paid $139 for the pump off ebay. if you want a cleaner gray water box or are getting water in lower sump areas, you might give this pump a try too. I put a dose of Odo-ban (from SAMS Club) down each drain before we leave to keep things fresh smelling.
"When the water level is reduced to approximately ¾", the other pumps on the market shut off. The Rule-Mate® RM2000 keeps working for 15 seconds longer, thus draining 50 % more water and reducing odors created by stagnant water. A great advantage for all boat owners. "
