New owner of a 370 sun sport

Iis it just me or does it seem like this boat was grounded? The mud caked on the outdrive makes me wonder... I wonder if the boat was submerged and just what it hit on the nose. The bow rail will be impossible to find and expensive to make. I wonder how the interior is from the rain water and if the boat was sunk? To many things to make you go hummm. One of the out drives doesn't work or it would be up. Just wondering what others think of this?

My thoughts exactly Pyro. I wonder if the boat broke loose in a storm/hurricane and beat itself to death on a breakwall/pilings? I also wonder what isn't broke, destroyed, or or otherwise damaged.

From the looks of it xp3000 has a very lengthy (1000s of hours) and expensive (10s of 1000s) project in front of him. I wish him a lot of success and good luck on this project.

I think just the same... something happened to that boat. I wonder what caused the large hole on the side...

I wouldn't touch that boat if you gave it to me! :smt018

It still has Ole Glory flying though!

yes the boat was submerged in fresh water due to a storm, here is the statement from the owner:

This 1990 37' Sea Ray 370 Sun
Sport sank in fresh water at moorage during a heavy rainstorm. The boat settled
to the bottom by the stern with engines, generator, batteries, water heater, air
conditioner, inverter, stereo amp and accommodations sole submerged. Helm,
electronics, interior upholstery, electrical panel, microwave apparently not
submerged. The fiberglass hull is in overall fair condition except for damage
noted with chalky gelcoat. Fiberglass damage, does not appear to be structural,
at bow under anchor roller. Damage on starboard side at bow under gunnel where
anchor appeared to have struck fiberglass. Additional fiberglass damage at port
stern quarter, does not appear to be structural. Stainless steel rails in fair
to poor condition with bow rail bent. Stainless steel rub rail hanging loose
starboard and forward and most of the port side. There was no power to boat at
time of inspection so unable to test equipment. Gauges and controls not
submerged, not physically damaged, not tested.

but like i've said soo many times, this is a complete overhaul on this boat which is what I'm after, with the upside of making profit from this (in the UK NOT US!)

it shall be a mission :)

as stated as far as the eBay posts shows you might as well plan on replacing all of these components... Motors full of water and sand are done... The out drives are more then likely full of water and done... the electronics may have survived but in all honesty its probably a 30% chance that they will turn on and 10% chance they will work. I'm glad that you are excited for your new project. Don't let us get you down. We just want you to understand the scope of what will need to be done so you are not over whelmed. I am very excited to see what you can do with your new toy. Just make good decisions and do not cut corners if you do not know find out and be sure to ask the people on CSR they are great at answering questions and giving ideas.... Again i just want you to be ready for the Butt Load of work you have coming your way my friend...

Good luck and keep us posted :smt038

There is no doubt that there will be an awful lot of work and expense involved in restoring this boat but boating and boat prices are very different in the UK. Our first boat in the UK was a 17' .6" cruiser and when we sold it after having it for 14 years we sold it for twice what we paid for it! I could not see too many folk doing that here unless it was something very special and unique.

We have lost thousands on the boats we have bought since living here but for us boating is not about calculating how much we have lost (that would be too scary) it's about the experience and family life boating, we all know it's a fairly expensive hobby anywhere. Plus UK folk are very resourceful in restoring stuff so I expect we shall probably see some different pictures soon. Wish you all the best with your labour of love, keep us posted!

PS What's her new name going to be? Any ideas yet? Perhaps something linking the UK and USA or ???????? Phoenix (good game this.)
PPS Pleased you like "Only Fools and Horses" that's the only thing I missed from the UK so we bought the DVD's :smt001 but we do have a lot of real Del Boys here too.

Hey Xp3000,
Hope all is well and your new project is on its way just wanted an update...

All the electrical will need replaced so I would change it over to 50hz. Once it gets wet, it will start corroding from the inside out. I could not tackle a project like that. Are merCruiser parts available in the UK? Lots to be replaced/rebuilt but I like the Bravo1 and 454 combination. It will use lots of gas/petrol so be prepared for huge fuel costs, Mike.

hey guys!

sorry haven't been in touch, my workload has shot though the roof and with xmas just around the corner i've had no spare time at all :(!

The boat is currently on the tanker on its way to the UK, it's due in around xmas so looking forward to it, yes we can get mercruiser parts in the UK.

hope all is well :)

Just had a phone call, the shipment is due into the UK this friday so 36 hours time :)

Hey XP3000,
How are things going? Hope your ship made it to your door and all is well...

Do hope his boat arrived safe, it was what he expected and he is okay. Have emailed his private email a couple of times this past two weeks or so with no response which was unusual. So who knows what's happened.............................

Well, I sent him another email yesterday but still no news. I asked if he was just ignoring us and if he was okay but no response. He used to reply straight away, but since the date his boat was supposed to have arrived not a word. I do hope he was not disappointed with her when she arrived, he must have made a hole in nearly $20,000 just buying and shipping to the UK. He told me he had all the folk lined up to to the repairs needed. I was looking forward to seeing the pictures....................There's no doubt if she was repairable and if he could do some of the work himself it would have been worth more in the UK. Do hope he decides to respond and send some pics, but am beginning to think something is seriously wrong......he was just so enthusiastic before she arrived (assuming she did.)

I'm still non convinced it was cheaper to buy in the USA such a wreck instead of looking for some deal here in Europe! More so when you are buying in Pounds against Euros...

Britt I am with you I hope we didn't scare him away... would love to have seen his progress... well Best of luck any way XP3000...
