Hello everyone,

I've actually been posting on the Classic Sea Ray list for a couple of weeks but just noticed this introduction thread.

Purchased my 1985 Sundancer 260 in Mentor, Ohio about 3 weeks ago. Took her across Lake Erie on a 4 hour trip to her new home in Port Clinton. Went over to Put-in-Bay that same weekend.

Man, are we having fun on this boat already. She runs great. Looks good too, although there are some cosmetics I'll be working on this season...upholstery, striping, things like that, but overall she's in great shape.

Anyway, ClubSeaRay has already been an invaluable resource. Hope to see you out there,

Welcome to the board. We are located in West Harbor at MM. Look forward to seeig you on the water.

Did you get hit by the hail last saturday? It was a wild day At Put in Bay. I've never been in anything like that and hope to never be again

YES! We sure did get to experience the hail. I'm at the Clinton Reef Club and motored over to the island at about 12:30 Saturday afternoon. Some folks next to me on 'A' dock mentioned something about a storm hovering over Toleda and so I listened to NOAA for a minute or two and decided to seal up the boat before we headed out. That, and if you were at the Village docks, you might have recalled the guy who came over his PA warning, "Run for your lives. The end is near. The storm is coming."

Our plan was to hit the winery, but we ended up on the porch of the Roundhouse instead. First came the rain, followed by some very impressive lightning and thunder. We were seated near a couple who owned a big trawler and everyone was hooping and hollering when the thunder hit having a good time, and then all hell broke loose.

My girlfriend darted into the Roundhouse with the finess of a gazelle while I lumbered toward the door, losing ground to the growing crowd trying to get in. I'll tell you what...I'm a reformed sailor and I've been out there on that lake for many years and I've never seen anything like that either and I've been in some nasty stuff.

The seventy something year old trawler owner and I were the last to get into the Roundhouse before they shut the doors and I remember standing there, under the porch, bucket of beer in hand, which as you probably know is a good 15-20 feet from the edge of the roof being pelted by hail.

They actually had to shut the front doors of the Roundhouse, which I've never seen before. It was every man for himself, as the sorry looking souls who did not make it in huddled around each other like refugees.

Luckily, the boat took no damage, however, when I looked down into my bucket of beer, it had taken damage. Floating at the top was a hail, several twigs, a leaf, and about two dozen Mayflies. I did my best to avoid those when scooping beer out and carried on. What else could I do?

It really was quite a storm.

I was at the bay last Saturday. What a storm that was. The hail blew holes in my strataglass. Unbelieveable wind. If you were there, did you see the lightning strike on Gibralter Island. Impressive.

I saw the lightning strike on Gibraltar. I was on the Roundhouse porch, so my view was obscured, but I saw the flash and most certainly heard the thunder.

I was on B dock and the Guy yelling was directly in front of me. We actually rode out the storm on my boat. I didn't take any damage but my dad had holes blown in to his isinglass as well as another boat in our group. Needless to say i'm glad we were in the bay and not on open water. I can only imagine riding that one out on open water.

Did you see the Sunny-S riding out on open water. He's one crazy SOB

I did see the lightning hit Gilbralter. Did you see the plume of smoke after. Wild.

I have some video of the hail... I will try and figure out how to post it.

Thats one we'll be talking about for a while...

No, I didn't see the Sunny-S head out? Where did he go? He left the Boardwalk pier and headed for open water?

He's been watching too much Deadliest Catch.

Right after the hail quit he was spinning in circles near the mooring balls. He was not at the docks during the storm and there was no time for him to get back from middle bass. I think he just stuck it out. That boat is a tank so i'm sure he was fine

Warren, Welcome aboard. Glad to hear no damage.

Hey Warren, welcome to CSR.

I am docked at Battery Park in Sandusky Bay and too saw that storm (although it basically only brought rain where we were). Boy did it look nasty to the west of us and over the islands.

My crew and I waited it out and went for a ride later that evening over to West Harbor for dinner and a few cold ones.

BTW, there are a few others on this forum from the area as well. One of them was also at PIB like you guys and suffered eisenglass damage. I'm sure they will chime in soon.

Maybe we should plan a raft up this summer??

Warren,

Welcome! Good to have another buckeye on board!

We get up to the area several times during the season.

Anyone going to Aquapalooza at Kelly's Cove on July 26?

Maybe we can get CSR raft up over there!

Fly your burgee - if you have one!
