Hi, I recently purchased a 1995 SeaRay 195BR 5 series and of course I have lots of questions!! It is my first boat and I've wanted a SeaRay BR for as long as I can remember, I can't believe I actually landed a 20 footer, I'm so excited. It was for sale on consignment at a boat shop that maintained her so I'm pretty sure she is solid, of course I did not have an independent mechanic look her over (ok, ok I know its a cardinal sin but you should have seen the way the way she looked at me) before I purchased but I did hear the motor run on the earmuffs before I signed the dotted line. She has the 4.3 litre V6 with Alpha I outdrive. The motor sounds smooth and its very quiet for what I was expecting, the upholstery is very good for a 19 year old. One seat is just starting to come apart where the welt joins the 2 pieces of the material on the seat of the bottom cushion and the bolts that hold the bottom cushion to the backrest are loose. The Bilge pump and bilge fan do not appear to be functioning (I ordered Attwood replacement units I believe they are OEM I'm sure someone will correct me if 'm wrong) I have (1) one gouge approx. 2 X 3 inches on the gel coat to fill and repair and that's about it. Looking forward to learning a lot from you all, and having a blast!

If there is anyone on this board from NJ who would like to get together and share their knowledge I would really appreciate it!!! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, the questions will be coming lol.

oh yeah, why does everyone including the old owner and the Owner of the shop keep telling me "it's a nice 1st boat"??

Congratulations and welcome to CSR!

Since you bought it from the shop that maintained it, ask for service records as far back as they can. When were the fluids changed, motor tuned up, manifolds, impeller, gimbel and ujoint, battery, and exhaust bellows replaced. Before buying I would have also confirmed that there was no water rot to the transom and stringers. These are all common issues with used boats of this vintage.

they were great, they showed me the service records, he said the only thing that needed to be done was the impeller, he thought they did it when they changed the bellows but did not see it on the bill, and here it is I thought the searay was all fiberglass construction in the lower half of the boat ................ oops!! oh transome is definitely glassed maybe wood thats glassed over but definitely glassed!!

thank you all for the warm welcomes, I think I'm good with this SeaRay, she looks like a keeper so far ..................... maybe faster but no bigger!! well maybe a little bigger lol

Where in Jersey are you? I'm up north in Greenwood Lake, but go to Barnegat once in a while.

Greenwood Lake in on the border of NJ and NY, half in NJ, half in NY. Plenty of restaurants, beautiful mountains, and great fishing. Bit of a drive from Flem town, though.

Stingers and transom are wood encassed, covered with fiberglass. Famous in those years for getting logged.

Ok found the bilge fan inline mounted midway on the deeper of the two air ducts. Removed it and could barely turn the blades by hand, and whaddya know it the same model that I purchase to replace it with!! Sweet I luv it when a plan comes together!! I'm still looking for the bilge pump location, looks like its near the transom in the corner closer to the port side of the boat!! I also have a black wire just hanging out by the battery not connected. it looks like the wire is loomed together with a red wire that has a fuse on the positive battery post which seems to be the bilge pump (based on posts that I've seen on here) but the hunt goes on I also found a buzzer near the throttle that was unplugged, once I plugged it it it worked once the key was turned anyone know what that is for?? is it a bilge pump alarm??
