Hello to all! We just joined today, we being myself, along with my wife and our 3 kids.
We recently bought our first Sea Ray, having owned several various other makes previously.
Our new boat was purchased as a project that we are just beginning. The boat is a 1977 SRV200.
All warnings about older boats, and/or projects turning into money pits aside, this was one that we would be kicking ourselves if we had let it pass by. Besides, I build custom cars for a living, so "project" style building is a daily thing for me.
The boat was originally from NJ, we are the 3rd owners. The original owner passed away recently after buying it new, thus the boat itself only has 88hrs on it!!!! But, unfortunately between the time the first owner passed, and the second owner purchased it, it sat in a non-heated pole shed for many years. The carpet and seats dry rotted from lack of maintenance. The interior of the cuddy is like brand new though.
The second owner removed the cruddy interior stuff, then found that even though the boat has a sealed cooling system, some dummy used straight water, no antifreeze, so engine damage was done. That's how we ended up with it!
Well, since the engine is a 350, we have many build up options, as I have been building race engines for years, and already have a super stout and reliable 355 in the works.
We won't be keeping the interior original, we will building it to suit our needs, for outings with the 3 kids part of the consideration.
We were fortunate to find a boat of this caliber and quality, and have always loved Sea Rays, but most have been out of our reach with trying to raise kids and run a business, so this new, yet old project was a perfect solution to our wants and needs!
Structurally PERFECT, not a scratch, and needing only repairs we can easily handle ourselves.
Sorry for the long intro, we are really excited now we have started the project!

Jeff
