Good morning everyone.

New member to this forum. I am looking forward to reading a lot of good information.

I will soon be buying a 1986 Sea Ray 300DB with a flybridge. This will be my first boat of this kind. It has Twin gas engines and is strictly inboards. We are buying it in Florida. The current owner has done little with the boat since he bought it in 2000. It runs great and everything seems to be working. It has a gen-set with heating and air conditioning. It does need some work and most of it is cosmetic. My wife and I will make it a weekend project for the next year or so until we retire. We will be "Alaska fitting" it. I am looking at a possible hard top for the back and installing things like a shrimp pot puller.

I currently own a 20ft Wooldridge Jet boat and we go out on Prince William Sound (PWS) in Alaska a lot. Problem with a jet boat is when there is a little chop on the water it tears you up pretty good. We also want to spend a week or so (in the summer) in the Sound before coming back in for supplies. PWS is a great place to be and we love to fish, hunt, and see all the things that PWS has to offer. Once I figure out how to post pictures I will share a few of PWS.

First question: I am trying to look up articles on this 1986 Sea Ray to get a feel for what type of vessel she will be. Any suggestions?

Other than Google and Sea Rays web site, no other suggestions. Welcome aboard. .

Welcome aboard.

You might want to try and post your questions in the more topic centric forums. Alaska looks like it would be challenging boating. What species of Bass to they have up there? Getting ready for Stripers here in the Chesapeake Bay.

It is but the rewards are awsome. Rock bass (Sea bass) but actually my name comes from my wife who is from Missoui, a Bill Dance want a be and I love King salmon fishing.

I found this site through an Alaska forum: http://forums.outdoorsdirectory.com/

I look forward to reading a lot about Sea Rays as i am going to florida to look at a 300DB

We just bought an 88 305 DB a few weeks ago. Not sure exactly what the differences are between the 86 and 88. We've had 2 weekends to enjoy on it and really look forward to spending our weekends there as well as a couple week long trips. Since we're in Phoenix and the boat is in San Diego, it is a bit of a commute for us but still well worth it. The only complaint I have is that the back is a bit small if you were going to try to do some serious fishing off of it, but for our needs, the interior is what sold the boat. I'll be on the boat this weekend putting in some new electronics on it and seeing what the fuel consumption is once I get it calibrated.

Being from Seattle originally I sure do miss the salmon fishing. That and going out to Neah Bay to get some halibut.

Hi Tom,

Welcome aboard. Good luck with your hunt for a Sea Ray. They are great boats.

BTW, I used to live in Homer. Nice to talk to someone for AK.
