While floating yesterday due to our engine knocking issue, I decided to try out my new 1156 base LED's I purchased from superbrightleds.com. They're supposed to be drop in replacements for the old style 1141 filament bulbs. I tried each one and nothing. Put the old bulbs back in and they lit up just fine. When we got home, I tested the LEDs on a 9-volt battery and all worked. What could be the problem?

Sorry Eddie,

I didn't see the 1156 part. Those are BA15s as I recall with single base contacts, so it doesn't matter how they are installed. It has to be the wiring as TheLucille suggested. Try one and see...

Thanks guys. I'm on my way down to the boat in 5 minutes will let you know how it goes.

My bulbs have both contacts on the base the side is not in the circuit. Glad I pulled out the bulbs and looked at that or I would have ordered the wrong kind.... Sure that is not your issue just sayin!!! There are B15S which are the single contact bottom and B15D for dual with two contacts on the bottom.

Nope, single contact. I wasn't able to switch the wires as they are crimped coming out of the bulkhead and then soldered into the switch and bulb base. I'll have to bring the solder iron and some new 'crimpable' connectors. Maybe tomorrow night. Can anyone offer advice on whether I can cut and switch before the switch or do I need to do it from the switch and the base? Don't want to have the off side be on and vice-a-versa.

before you tear everything up can you test with some wires connected to the socket and the ends connect to the bulbs?

That's why I love this forum. More heads are definitely better than mine.:smt115 Excellent suggestion. Thanks.
