New here and just bought a 86 sea ray seville

So i just bought this from my boss, got if for 350, it runs, but needs a little work, the upholstery is good and all the floors and nice and solid. A couple off issues running it in the drive way, i noticed the tach doesn't, work and he also told me the speedo, doesn't, work. I think the little speedo wheel is missing from the back, may be a hard part to find. Where would i start to see whats wrong with the tach?

I owned this exact same eyar and model for many years. From the factory it came with a white pito tube in the back to measure speed. This thing kicked up quite often as it got older and had to be replaced every few years.

To check the tach operation you need to carefully remove the tach from the dash and check each wire connection. The majority of the time they corrode in the dash area and you lose connection. Cut off all the old connections and crimp on new marine grade connections. The retest the tach. At that age the tach itself just might be bad. See if you can find a salvage tach to test and see if the salvage tach reads when the original didn't.

Verify all wires to the engine ignition, coil and distributor are intact at the engine.

Of course, disconnect the battery before checking/repairing the wires, opening the dash etc...
