I installed a new electric macerator freshwater pressurized flush Raritan Sea Era and holding tank to replace a porta-potti with pump-out. I have never owned a holding tank, and my previous boats also had porta-potties.

What is the proper procedure for length of flush, max time between pump-outs, chemicals to add, vent hose charcoal canister required, tank rinse (flush head to add water??) and re-pump out, etc.?

I'm about to spend a week on the boat so it will finally need to be used. :smt100

Thanks!

I'll bite....

Most here are more familiar with Vacuflush. You may want to contact Raritan directly to get their recomendations.

Regarding the holding tank - It would be wise to install a charcoal vent filter with the proper hose to keep the tank vapors in check. There are a number of posts on CSR on how to make your own, or buy one.

I use liquid Sealand (Dometic) holding tank deoderant. Raritan may have their preference on what to use.
The frequency of your pump outs will be determined on the amount of use, and the size of your tank. I typically do not go more than 2-3 weeks on my 28 gallon holding tank. Not because it is full, just because it gets warm in the bilge for an extended period of time in the summer.

When pumping out, I back fill through the dockside pump out fitting about 10 - 15 gallon of water from the garden hose at our marina's out pump out dock. I repeat and then I'm done. I add the deoderant by flushing it down the head.

BTW - IMO, use only marine TP, and only flush what has been drank or chewed!
