I am looking for info on new replacment hatches for my 1987 250 sundancer. Ant info where I can find them and prices. Thanks!

Hi,
Tell us why you need new hatches. There is a lot of refurbishing/repairing you can do for a lot less than the $900 it will cost for new Taylor Made brand hatches. You are kind of limited because of the size. I recall the hatch openings not being a common size.

My 1987 250DA had broken hinge pins on both hatches, the plexi was loose in the frame and the rubber gasket was in bad shape. I wound up spending around $120 on the project.

$60- new hinge pins welded in
$45- new rubber gaskets
$15-tube of Boat Life Life Seal Caulk to rebed the lenses

You will have to remove the hatch frames to repair or replace, so you can then decide what you want to do. I could have replaced the lenses but new tinted Lexan was going to be $75 each so I live with the scratches. I would only use the Lifeseal or the 4200(instead of the 5200)caulk to reset the frame as it will be easier to remove in 5 years to do it again.

BTW, removing the frames was a real SOB.

I replaced both hatches on my '86 340EC. I had intended to buy replacement parts as eddiezuskin did, but found that they were no longer available for my OEM Bomar hatches. I don't know what year they changed the handle design, but my friend's '89 340DA has a newer design.

I bought new Bomar pieces that were exactly the same size as my originals from Boater's World. They were something over $200 each, maybe $500 for both, as I recall.

The factory sealed them with silicone, as they did pretty much on everything else on the boat. Removing the screws and then 'cutting' the sealant with a sharp putty knife as you gently pry up on the hatch will get them out. The silicone then needs to be removed from around the hole; I think it's Boatlife that makes a good silicone removing solvent. I then used 3M 5200 to seal my new hatches, though it could be argued that 5200 is overkill. If I need to remove them ever again, cutting the sealant works well, just like cutting urethane to replace the windshield in your car.

Thanks for the help. Mine are taylor made. They leak from the frame and are missing parts so I guess I will just fix them it sounds like it well be alot cheaper. Where is the best place to find the parts and the cheapest place. The leak well be easy to fix but I still need the parts. Thanks.
