Last night a new article system was installed on the forum. My intention for this system is to provide an outlet for all sorts of original content that you all will provide. We'll have a few assigned authors that can add content at will, then we'll have contributors that can submit content to be added (anybody is eligible for this).

This new software will be the home page when a user goes to www.clubsearay.com. There are lots and lots of settings and adjustments I need to make so it works well for our purposes to please bear with me.

How can you help? I need content. I thought the easiest way to get useful content would be to task you all with creating boat reviews. A database of Sea Ray reviews would be awesome to have. We can do it for both new boats you see at a boat show, and older boats that you already own. Of course, like the rest of CSR, reviews should be informative and positive in nature. If you absolutely hate your boat then don't bother writing about it. If there is a feature you don't like on your boat then its certainly OK to write about it.

Review Format -
Let's keep this simple and easy. We can always add to the reviews as we go along. The review format can be as simple as a text walk-through of your boat, pointing out things you do and don't like. Then a brief performance section with your cruise speed, HP, engine model, fuel burn. etc. And finally some pics. These don't need to be pics of your boat as the review is focusing on the Sea Ray model overall, and not your particular boat. Although pics of your boat are fine.

New boat reviews can be done at boat shows. Not all of us are able to attend boat shows to see the models we want to see. So it would be great of users that attend shows can take some pics of new models, then maybe a very brief (or Long) description of the boat. Maybe point out the coolest new features of that model.

How to submit - Please submit your review as either text in an email or as a word doc, and email it to jim.maier@gmail.com (that's me). Attach any relavent pics you want included. Also include your CSR username.

The first person to submit an acceptable review will be forever associated as the author of that review. I think that's a pretty neat internet hook to hang your hat on. Any future additions or alterations to that review will be included also as required. So even if you are not the first, but you have relavant info to add, please send it.

Informational Articles, How To's - Many of you have already written helpful tutorials on doing specific tasks on a boat. Some have created checklists. Anything you have in text format that you think might be helpful to other Sea Ray owners is what we need for this article system. Perhaps you have already written something in our forum, please find it, paste it to an email and send it to me for inclusion.

I am very excited about the potential for this new system, although not too excited about th long nights ahead trying to get it all done. Any help you all can provide will be great. I wil probably have a icon made to go next to each Contributors name on the main forum to show that you have contributed to the article system.

Please ask your questions or leave your comments here. Thanks!

Do you have an example of what you envision it looking like?

Just a thought, is there a way to develop a survey with a standard set of questions, that mutiple people could vote on. Then you could get a quick comparison on how each boat stacks up in various categories based on user experience.

I can certainly look into that. That's about $2000 in programming. The CSR wallet has about $300 in it right now so I don't see that happening any time soon. Good idea though. I just want to stick to basic reviews while we get this going. A Format? How about this:

Format:
We went tot eh Seattle show this weekend and viewed the new 320 Sundancer.. We were immediately greeted by the new style seat in the back blah blah blah.

When going down below you'll notice the settee is now to starboard which makes for a nice...blah blah blah.

The master bed seems a bit shorter than normal, I am tall (6'4") and my feet were bumping the bulkhead at the end. There was a nice flat screen tv in the master...blah blah blah

The engine room looked great, it has 8.2 Mercuiser Horizon at 380HP Each. The spec sheet said it burns 28 GPH at a 31knot cruise. The generator was ... blah blah blah

End Format

Just the basics, a basic description of the boat from a potential owners eyes. The format for a boat you currently own would be the same, although you'll be able to include your opinion of the ride too.

What about non boat reviews but boating related. Say like my iphone and software for boating, or my new standard horizon vhf?

Review it all. Whatever you got. Turtle I thought I saw an email come through from you but can't find it, can you resend it?

What about video reviews? Say I have a video camera and I go around video taping everyone, that will allow me, working on projects on their boats. Or using a this or that?

Actually, this is beginning to sound like work....

But at work you get paid. So this must be fun because you're doing it for free. Maybe a pat on the back.

Best regards,
Frank
