new fenders?

Ok , I’m curious. The hole is 1”. Use a 1.5” flat washer on a 6.5” fender. How would that scratch your boat? You have a 2.5” cushion all way around.
Show your work.

Sorry teacher, my dog ate my homework!
I have a bad enough time trying to keep from scratching my boat with the metal found on the above mentioned Taylor fender straps I use.
I personally would not attach a washer to the bottom of a fender to keep the knotted rope from pulling through it, when I can just go up in rope size and eliminate the need for a washer, which will scratch up the gel coat at some point, somewhere. I believe the same mindset is why they don't manufacture fenders without any metal in them.

not sure why people wouldn’t use these

I tried these. Did not take much pull (think boat pressed against the dock with the fender in the middle and rocking) for those to pull loose.

Love the concept, they just did not work that well for me.

Thicker line. A substantial knot on each end with plenty of length to the line. You can hang vertically or horizontally based on the need for a specific tie up.

I have had mine for 4 years, but just hanging on the side of my boat. Never close to thinking they would fail

If one wants fender hangers these are hard to beat.

As for keeping the line in the tubular fenders it is difficult with a line that is too small, I buy lines tight enough that they must be pulled through the fender with a wire. Then any decent knot will not slip through.

I carry six fenders, four tubular appropriately sized for the vessel, two with the above hangers and knotted (easily hangs down with security knot so hanger cannot slip), two with the line knotted (quicker horizontal hanging), and two big ball fenders properly sized, always my first go to.

Deciding on fender configuration is really driven by how you use your boat. If you return the same slip every time and your only non slip docking is the fuel dock or tie up at a restaurant then you probably don't need to carry a lot of fenders on your boat. You may choose to leave fenders permanently on your slip and just carry a couple of mid to smaller fenders for the occasionally tie up.

If your rafting up with other boats, another consideration.

We travel a lot staying at different marinas and different tie ups. All our fenders stay with the boat when we leave the slip. We have 4 large fenders and 2-3 mid size fenders. All are configured so they can easily be tied vertically or horizontally based on where we are.

Turns out they are not Taylor Made. Some other brand. Blew them up this morning and now 3 of the 4 are flat...lol. I'll take a closer look but worst case I got 1 new big fender and 3 new lines for my old fenders for $19...lol

If the fill port is a football style needle type, dribble a little bit of vegetable oil down the hole and put a bit of vegetable oil on the needle before filling it. Brought 2 fenders back from the dead (did not work on a third) doing this. Might take a few times.

This is the style of fender hanger I use, work great

So we have an auction house that has online auctions and wife found a set of 4 Taylor Made 10" x 27" fenders that have the hole through the center. She got the box of 4 for $20. The fenders were still sealed in their bags and had not been inflated yet.

So how would you use these with the rope going through the center? The lines that came with them have a loop on one end but it will fit through the hole in the center but if I slip the other end through that loop then they are too short to really tie anything to.

They are similar to this. If I tie a bigger knot in the bottom so it won't slip through the hole in the center then they would work great. I can always buy longer lines but was wondering how everyone else uses them? We have always had fenders with 'loops' on each end to tie the line through.

If you have the screw valve ,on TaylorMade fenders , you cannot screw them down all the waytight ,or they will leak/loose air . The screw has to be flush with the fender . I ran into this before . Here’s a video on how to fill the fenders
