New England Boat Show

I'm hoping to go after work some night this week.

Thought the 450 was really nice. I didn't like the setup of the 390. I went on a Fountain 34', price was 275k. My 260 SD had more room down below for 1/3 the price. You had to stoop to use the head. Also went on a Fountain 31'. There was 5'4" in that head. I guess Fountain owners like sitting when they have to go.

I got there today at noon and had the place to myself....I spent an hour on the 45 and...............I was wrong

Did you mean Formula?

You really liked that Benetau 37? I was completely underimpressed with the fit and finish on it. There were sharp jagged edges of fiberglass abounding in hatchways and other endpoints, the woodwork/cabinetry was subpar and the wood finish was blotchy and uneven throughout. I really had a much higher expectation for this brand. Layout was nice, but that's about all that I can say for it.

Spot on with the SR pavillion, they really do know how to "run a show". Even the Boston Whaler pavillion was not as well run right next door. Although I was a bit miffed that they could not pull up my SROC membership in their computer. Now I have to run that down to get my 300 points :(

I guess going out and having a few beers after the show clouded my brain. Yes Formula.

I'm heading back over to the show again today. The second time this week. I may pick up the Raymarine C70 radar bundle. I've been going back and forth with my options. Originally I wanted just the weather, but it seems like getting the C70, radar, and a sat weather receiver for $1,500 isn't too bad.

I love the new 280 DA! I was never fond of having the cockpit broken up into two different sections. The new 280 has seating similar to my old Sundeck - a port lounger and l-shaped seating. The Captain's seat swivels and the backrest drops so you can be with the rest of your guests. And, I like the cabin door being to the left.

If I had the money, I would get the 450 Dancer they had there. It is the ultimate entertainment boat.

I do want to get new decals for my boat that now says '310'. I looked at all the 310s at the show, and their LOA is less than my 280. I wonder if my value just increased???

I do really like the layout of the 450DA. It has received a lot of criticism for not having a private 2nd state room, but I think the open layout and the big living room aft is very practical.

My absolute show favorite was the Sabre 40. It has an amazing amount of room inside for a 40. Loved the 3 level layout and the door next to the helm. The Back Cove 33 was pretty nice as well, but I wouldn't trade my 330 for one.

I went around 2:00 on Tuesday to avoid the crowd. I also think the layout of the 450 is nice. I was talking to one of the rep and he said Sea Ray hired back 100+ workers.

I’m with you on the Sabre 40, beautiful woodwork, really nice interior, the sales rep said he sold one to a guy in Chatham that will be keeping it at Hyannis.

\As far as other brands, I was amazed at the amount or head room and space inside the cabin of the Cruisers 420 Coupe. Just can't get over the lines on her though...doesn't do it for me in that department.

I went again yesterday without the family and spent a good three hours. I was able to get on the Cruisers, Four Winns, Chapparals, and Monterey. I have gone for the last 4 years and I can say for sure that the decline in quality is obvious on these boats. I can't see any decline in quality on the Sea Rays. In fact, it seems that the perceived quality, fit and finish is better. You can see the difference in the thickness of the vinyl, the weight of the transom doors and hatches, the use of more stainless vs. plastic, and the wood in the cabinetry and sole. There are no exposed screws and hinges on the Sea Rays and if present, they are substantial and recessed. The prices of the "other" brands seemed like bargains, compared to the Sea Rays. Could it be that the Sea Ray is further separating themselves and moving upmarket?

I have to say that the fully glassed enclosed cockpit layout of the Cruisers 390 was brilliant. It had a center console that you walk around. The rear of the console had the wet bar. The front had a seat. The windshield had a walkthrough with a fixed stairway with an aft facing seat beside it. The cabin door was to port. They really botched up the cabin though. There was nothing aft of the dash bulkhead. This is an IPS boat too. What? No aft cabin? Not even an aft lounge? The head had an enclosed shower with a threshold to retain the water, but the other half of the floor outside the shower did not have a drain.
The fit and finish were horrendous. Lots of thin cheap plastic. The stainless rail leading to the windshield walkthrough was probably one inch in diameter and felt like it could break off with a good tug. The dash appeared to be manufactured out of the same plastic used for the toys in the Dollar Store. I almost stubbed my toe on one of the surface mounted cheap hinges on the sole of the cockpit. For the same price of the 2009 Axius Sea Ray 380DA at the show, are you getting a bargain with an enclosed glass cockpit and IPS? Absolutely not.

Cool amphibious (pretty big... ~22ft??) inflatable at the show. Can't remember the brand of it, but it looked really cool with the huge off-road retractable tires. Very impressive concept.

Also saw a cool little Ranger Tug R21 (never heard of them before), and thought it would be neat little something to tool around in during the winter (enclosed heated cockpit). Once we found out that top speed is 10mph and cruising speed is 8mph, it became a little bit less exciting. http://www.rangertugs.com/r/r-21.cfm
Very different, for sure. Looked great in person. Did anyone else happen to see it?

Went back Saturday with my boys for a second look and to scope out an EPIRB. I figured next to last day of show, perhaps I could find a good deal on one. Wrong, they were as willing to negotiate as nothing. I can do much better at my usual online stores (BOE and Defender).

RE the Ranger Tugs, they are "cute" as my daughter puts it. Every boat magazine I have has their ads. Was underimpressed with the room inside the R25 though. You can't be standing in the galley and have someone pass you.

The Riviera 47 was sharp inside. Nice layout and fit and finish. Damn arch is pointed the wrong direction though :)

I went yesterday, nothing really exciting but it was a good show although smaller than years prior. In the SR display I noticed a couple things, the sedan bridge looked like the 360 but they had it labeled the 390?? And I took a really close look at the exterior of the 450DA - I was not going to wait in a line to go in - and was suprised to see plastic latches on a $700k boat. Also was pondering the practicality of that aft sunbathing pad? When the back rest is closed what do you use that pad for? I would think it would take a beating back there from the elements and maybe fit a 7 year old. Nice concept but in practice?? ehh
It would have been nice to see some more useful vendors so I could have found an excuse to buy something other than a "nano pad" and another 45+ size DA would be nice so I could dream. It still was a nice way to spend a late winter Saturday.

I did like the layout of the 31 Ranger Tug. A lot of boat for $200,000.

It was a 2009 36DB. You missed that the 390DA was a 2009 38DA. "That is the boat show price on a special order 2010, but for you my special friend, I have a better price on an in-stock 2009."

I missed that, but I did see the heavy solid stainless steel side vents. Where were the plastic latches? Cabin door?

It sure looked like one but they did have 390 on the transom of the 36DB. :smt101 Oh, I see now that they just renamed it and no more 36?was the old 36DB 38'4"?

They were on the funky backrests that opened up for the rear sunpad. So when closed they would be on the transom - I think. I did notice those vents, first which is why it seemed odd to scimp on the little latches - maybe there was a reason?

The '09 36DB was 38'4" with the swim platform. It was weird seeing it at the show because I had an offer in on that same boat in the Spring of '09. It fell through due to financing. I had not seen the boat until the boat show last week. I love it, but my new 330 is great and easy on the wallet. I would have been strapped for a while in the 36DB.
