Trying to make the title searchable -
Have an 05 240 Sundeck. New engine installed by Marine Max prior to my purchase, have put maybe 10 hours on it. Yesterday ran across Tampa Bay to St. Pete at moderate pace (3200 RPM). Had a great lunch, went to start the engine. It started, idled briefly, sounded an alarm and go "Eng Data Bus" alert. Repeated several times. Then put it in neutral, added some throttle. Engine started and stalled with same alarm/alert. Called Marine Max, was advised it may be the connection to the ECU.
Finally got the engine to stay running (idled for 5-10 minutes) and got underway, stalled once as we idled out of the marina. Was able to get out with a slightly faster than idle pace, and into the bay. Ran across, no problems, no stumbles (also no speed indication - Pitot fault).
Upon reaching the marina, idled to the dock, and as I shifted from forward to reverse, the engine died without alarm. Coasted into the dock and tied her up.
Did the housecelaning, and just for kicks, started the engine. No problem, ran well.
The data bus fault came up once or twice on another run. The RPM dropped briefly, but came back up. But this time the engine quit.
Luckily still within 30 days of purchase, and have extended warranty. MM is coming out to the boat next week.
Wanted to see if anyone has had this happen to them.

For clarification - it's the 5.0 with Smartcraft, no DTS.

Hate to sound like a broken record.....but sounds like the IAC - although I am not familliar with the code.....like you said, its under warrenty - let them figure it out...

They will be on the boat Weds to troubleshoot and repair. The code indicates the computer is not talking to the engine. If it were the IAC, I would not expect that code to come up. Also loss of comms on the speed and tach indicate to me it is a harness issue. Before it started failing, the tach did not move smoothly, rather it had a jerky motion.

OK. Marine Max went out to the boat and repaired the Engine Bus Fault, ran the engine for an hour and conducted sea trial. I think that turned out to be a connection issue. They also replaced the speed (pitot) sensor, which caused me to lose my speedometer.
Proof will be this weekend when we run the boat.
