New dock neighbors, etiquette question

Figured I would post this question here, before I go full Karen at my docks.

We have had a dock for three years now, that has been fairly peaceful. This year two new monster center consoles have shown up and both are very fond of their music. It’s not just coming and going, they sit on their boats at the dock blasting some seriously awful shit.

I’m going to start by asking them to keep it at a reasonable level. But curious if you guys just ignore this or would you say something?
Loud music seems to be a thing these days. And people don't realize how well it travels on water. I would try to ask them nicely, at a time when they aren't whooping it up. Some time when you can just shoot the chit and work into the conversation.

Welcome to my biggest boating peeve. For the life of me I can't figure out why people venture out into the great outdoors and feel inclined to bring their noise with them. Do they really think anyone is impressed with their particular selection of music, or the size of their speakers?

I'm tempted to pipe up any time I see one of those "what speakers/amps should I buy" threads. But hey; Not my monkey - not my circus, unless they happen to be within earshot.

I was all into upgrading my stereo this winter, this is one of the reasons I decided not to.

We did a trip this weekend and stayed at a transient Marina.
Super duper quiet, enjoying the weekend until that boat showed up. Too fat, beer drinking, cigar smoking, belching dudes parked a 340 behind us and we're cranking the music. They obviously knew how loud they were. Rather than approach them I called the dock master. He came to talk to them, which only made it worse. I then went to see the dockmaster and asked if they were staying the night, because if they were I was leaving. He said they only paid for a 4-Hour slip and would be gone within the hour, and they were.

I don't get it either.

The owner of my Marina would kick that guy out. I spilled a few drops of oil on the dock recently, had planned on cleaning it up, his staff was out there the next day with power washers and scrubbers, I could see it all from the cameras on my boat. I contacted him to apologize stating I was planning to clean it up the next time I was there. It was late at night when I left and I was exhausted and couldn't see it all.

If I'm you I'm looking for another Marina, though it sounds like it's been resolved at least for now

Ditto. We rent a slip for about three weeks over the Summer in N. WI at a small private marina, and there are 10pm noise regulations.

I have upgraded my sound system and really enjoy it, because I enjoy music and an improved sound quality. However, I never crank it at any hour in the marina or near other boaters. The Golden Rule applies.

I just upgraded the head unit on our pontoon for Bluetooth and better sound. We are on a small quiet lake…..again, the Golden Rule applies. We’re here to make friends on the water.

Someone ‘called it’, that the owners house probably looks like the dock with all his crap strewn over it. That describes a lack of self respect.

Man, what horror stories! We all cook meals together, hang out together, often boat together and are planning on 2 weeks up in Canada boating together in July!! We have not moved up to a 58' I found because we would have to leave our marina.

Don’t confront them tell management your concern…. In the end you don’t make the rules

I’m not sure this is actually against the marina rules. I would have to check.

Funny, our marina manager want's us to try and get past our differences before we call the office.
There is getting past your differences and outright violation of the rules.

Yeah it's not quite the same as what the OP is posting, that would not fly here at all. Maybe for a day, but that's about it. They would fix it before anyone could say anything. The dock master walks the docks every morning.

Ya 10pm at Pikes and it is dead quiet.o_O I'm having trouble adjusting, might have to go somewhere a bit more rowdy. Used to be if I let my new stripper lights cycle through the colors it was sort of a signal to anyone else still up to grab their bottle and come over...now nothing happens, they probably just think I'm supporting gay pride or something. I gotta find some more hillbillys with boats.:D

Very well could be, however it is Bayfield. You may have had more visitors than you really wanted ;), and might not have had enough Bud Light.

I guess I don’t have slip neighbor problems because I trailer, but I deal with the noise everywhere I go. I like my ski/wakeboard boat, but I don’t even have a stereo on it. I’d like to add one, but you can be sure I won’t have tower speakers. If I upgrade my boat, I wouldn’t necessarily remove speakers but I can guarantee I don’t want loud music, definitely not loud enough to share with other boaters.
