Advice time.

What am I looking for as to quality in new clears?

I had an over the phone quote to replace just my from windshield clear with new canvas + clears and they indicated approx $800 (unseen)

With her in for service thought I'd get a quote replacement of clears but no new canvas. Came back and said can do that for sides, but front will need canvas too. All up, $3200 + taxes

That seems a little excessive.

Now when we first inspected 18 months ago, she had good clears, but 6 months ago they really started going down hill. Poor quality vinyl?

Guy who did quote today said his stuff is good for approx 6 years.

Before I start making calls I'm after a little background on what makes for good clears and what is just throwing $$ away.

Any help?

Man, that's tough.

Ive always had success dealing with the guy I know or the guy my buddies use. Outside of that...good luck with your choice.

Yeah, a lot of coin indeed.

Any one have any knowledge of what materials are available and what questions I need to ask the trimmer?

I had all of the clear replaced on on 280 using existing canvas. They cut the new material to fit, then sewed it in leaving the old in place to keep the shape. Then you cut out the old. Cost of doing this with Stratglass, increasing the camper back window size and adding a screen, new screen as well on the camper sides and several new zippers was less than US $ 700.00.

The OEM material is a multi-layerd vinyl. Once the outer layer starts to go, moisture can seep into the inner layer causing it to fog. That's how it can turn from being alright to worthless almost over night.
