New Classic Owner

I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks now and took the plunge last week - bought a 22' 1978 Overnighter (also heard it referred to as a weekender, or as a 225 express cruiser). Despite it being 31 years old and knowing how craiglist ads and photos sometimes enhance a boats condition, my wife and I went to take a look. Admittedly, I was sold at first sight due in large part from the meticulous care of the previous owner, and following a close inspection and 2 hour water test run, made the final buy decision. To me, the selection was a compromise--I wanted a larger fishing boat and would have been happy with an 18' Lund or Crestliner, but my wife (the Admiral?) wanted a cuddytype craft for overnight stays. When I learned of some of this boat's past, being used as a fishing rig in Lake Michigan, I didn't need much further convincing- surely I could safely fish the big Minnesota lakes with it. And, as the Admiral said--"The fish don't care what kind of boat you have." Then it became one of those deals where the more I looked at it and thought about it, the more I liked it. It came with the custom canvas camper cover and the interior adorned in modern blue and white upholstery, and beige carpet, (vs the lovely 70's motif), renovations performed 10 years ago by the PO.

We had it (needs to be named yet) out on the St. Croix River this past Sunday for the afternoon and it's performance exceeded expectations.

I have found many of the forum threads helpful and look forward to participating in the future. I have a tough challenge ahead in trying to add tasteful improvements and further enhance the aesthetics.

My wife loves our 1976 240 weekender and she wants to go out more than I do. Our family has spent several nights on the lake this year. We purchased the boat in March 09. I think you will really enjoy the choice you made. I know we have.
