We are planning a week long trip in a rental house in lakeside on Lake Michigan. We are debating on taking our 280 SD or our wave runners. The house has no docks, so we would have to get a slip in new buffalo, which is I believe the closest marina. If we take the wave runners, we would just drop them in as needed.
Any advise on the area? We are leaning on taking the wave runners due to there will be 15 of us in the house. Most of them kids so the wave runners would be used more. Is there any special rules/laws for wave runners on the lake?
Thanks any advice would be helpful.

There are two spots where you can drop them -- one is municipal (I believe) and the other is Oselka's marina. I'm not sure if there's a fee to drop (it's been ages since I've done that). The rules in New Buffalo aren't that much different from anywhere else, although the harbor is small and can get congested. I wouldn't recommend putting a first-timer 16 year old on a wave runner in the harbor. Get them used to the wave runner out on the big lake before allowing them to operate in the narrow confines of the harbor.
