New boat, not a SeaRay - but I'm not leaving

This forum is great, and while folks here probably are not as interested in a Cobalt with a Volvo engine, I have not forgotten the 20+ years of SeaRay / Mercruiser ownership that I can still contribute.

That's a reason why I keep coming back here. Plus, there's lots of good general boating info that spans across any kind of boat.

Congratulations.

Cobalt is a very popular boat here at my marina since they started selling them a few years ago. They look great.

Post up some more pictures from you outings.

My Four Winns 240 had a Volvo Penta 8.1 duoprop IO. I really liked that power train. Very smooth and responsive. Easy to service.

OK, now I'm jealous. I've always loved Cobalts--well built, nice lines, nice quality. Just a plain nice boat.

Congrats.

Super nice and congrats. My neighbor has the same boat with the tower. Gets used about four or five times a summer. Ashame and it’s on lift, not a trailer.

6.2 liter in yours?

Congrats! I don’t know anything about the brand, but I was impressed recently when I saw that Cobolt had a boat that had a compartment on the transom that opened up and a huge inflatable float pad unraveled from it at the press of a button.
The boat also had a built in air pump to inflate and deflate it. Hit another button and it reels it in. Very ingenious, if it works.

Has a 5.7 300hp, Volvo calls it a V8 - 300. It will top out at 50mph, seems to have plenty of power. The thing I noticed first is there is almost no bowrise, it just jumps on plane.

I love the comparisons to a Sea Ray. A Cobalt has ALWAYS been a much-higher quality than a Sea Ray. Don't hate me. I've owned 4 Sea Rays!

That's very arguable. My boat was higher quality than any of the comparable Cobalts that I test drove at the time. The new Cobalts are marginally better than Sea Ray. Don't get me wrong, I love the Cobalt looks.

I have owned 5 cobalts. 20 foot through my 2007 302 I still have on Lake of the Ozarks. They are a quality boat. The gel coat on the boats I have owned has always the best in my opinion. I bought the 302 new and took a tour of the plane and watched it coming down the line. The interior department was making my interior by hand and specially for my boat piece by piece. I was impressed anyway. Enjoy it it will last forever.
