I have a funny story that I think is worth sharing. I just bought my boat and don’t like its name. “Clear to Close”

So I thought I would enlist the help of my wife and kids to come up with a new name. My wife’s name is Patricia, my daughter is Kerri and my son is Ryan. Kerri is 7 and my Ryan is 10.

So at dinner the other night I asked them for help coming up with a new name for the boat. They started blurting out all sorts of names. My wife suggested “The Whippany Wacker” which is a nickname that we game my son because it is pretty good at baseball. Then my wife suggested “The Kerri Ann”, which is my daughter’s first and middle name. My daughter countered with “The Patricia Ann”, which is my wife’s first and middle name. I said I wanted to come up with something that includes the whole family and not just one person. So I joked that I was thinking about naming it “Ship of Fools” or the “Dirty Rotten Kids”.

The kids then started blurting out a bunch of names that really weren’t relevant to boating, so I explained that I wanted something with a nautical theme. I explained that sometimes boat propellers are called screws and that a boats speed is measured in knots. With that, my daughter says “oh I know, how about “The Dirty Screw”? :wow: :smt043:smt043 My wife and I started laughing. The kids didn’t know what was so funny. So I said “I think I like that,:smt038 but I’m not sure about your mother”. My wife tried to keep a straight face and says. “I’m not sure about that one. Lets come up with some other names”. So then my daughter says “Oh, OK, wait. How about “Screw Pat”? :wow::lol::lol::smt043 That didnt over well with her mother either.. I guess its back to the drawing board!

We went through the same deal in naming ours. My wife’s name is Sandy, so a suggestion was throw out for “Sandy’s Bottom”, but no she nixed that idea. We settled on “Sandy’s Beach”

Vince, no matter what name you come up with, y'all will remember this conversation years from now.

Is that a capsized sailboat in the background of your first photo?

The original name I came up with for my boat 3 seasons ago was a combination of my name and the then current admiral. Dan and Sandy
Thus

DanSan on the Water

With her departure from the scene, prior to the renaming ceremony it reverted back to the correct spelling

Dancing on the Water

As above has said you and your kids will remember the dinner conversations on the renaming.
Good Luck

Dan

It is a sunken sail boat in the harbor of Marco Island. Picture is from April 2008

When we bought our first boat, a 21' party barge, we wanted to name it. My mother-in-law Annie had always helped us beyond expectation. So my wife came up with TAWCAT, which I still use as my nick. It stood for Thanks Annie We Can Afford This.

Our new boat was purchased after Annie departed this world a year ago, thus, the "Annie Laurie." The name her daddy gave to her! She may have departed our world, but she's with us every weekend!

Its interesting how I have changed the focus of the names of my boats. My first boat's name was Margaritaville, My current boat The W.A.V.E stands for my wife Wendy, my daughters Alexandra, Victoria and Elizabeth. I couldnt get my sons Richard and Nicolas into the mix. And get this........she wants another one.......craziness:smt009
