New boat, comments?

I always found it loud, even with underwater exhaust. The Kohler genny made a racket but that was expected.
I'm not discounting your experience - I don't what was going on. But people would actually comment on how nice it was in the cockpit as we were idling.
 
Dealer said call for price so I did on a Crownline 22' LPX with a 6.2 Merc and all the options. 100 K and he takes my 2003 Select 200. This would be serious and I realized the importance of a good reputation and local warranty service when buying new. I actually have a Sea Ray dealer a few miles away on Lake Union and they would fix it for me! Crownline hardly exists and the dealer is in Idaho. We had our first spat over props and we had not yet consummated the relationship.
 
Ohh man...mostly I agree. But there's nothing quite like being launched from rack service, inside a boat well, seawall on three sides, captains choice set to full open, and lighting the fire. Ooff...I miss go-fast boats for just about only this reason :)
There's nothing like a 496 lighting up with the thru hull exhaust open. It's like a bomb going off. My kids have learned to listen for the click of the flappers opening. My wife has not. I don't run with it open much anymore. My friends are getting too old....
 
Let your oil warm up before clearing the pipes! I loved this 98 cu in Harley clone but knew that the oil drive gear was nylon and weak. The oil is thick and harder to pump when cold. The manual says keep the revs down when just warming up. One Sunday morn, the pretty people were out on the trail when I started up and turned onto the parallel main drag. I knew better but I opened the throttle and let my loud pipes sing for a block but then the lifters collapsed and I limped home with a whimper. The weak drive gear had stripped and the oil pressure inflated lifters had collapsed such that the cam barely opened the valves. No biggy I thought but the manual said I would have to split the cases and duplicate Celestial inscrutability during reassembly. Eventually I found a bolt on replacement. Open the engine compartment to expose your system's woofer and play your favorite tunes at a 1000 watts, remembering, :"Let the engine warm up 1/2 hour before playing tunes with your cut-outs. Mercruiser doesn't even sell thin oil. Marine utilization is tough on engines."

Ummm, I just have the thru hull open at startup. Not adding throttle. 496 doesn't need to be above idle to be loud. I always warm it up until the thermostat opens before I throttle up. And I don't use Mercruiser oil. Rotella goes in everything I own.
 
I was looking at new boats when I just discovered that year 2000 21' Sundecks came with private porta-potties.

I would definitely go with the 260 You want the cabin to get out of the sun You want the porta potty for the kids and the women maybe yourself it's just a better all-around boat having a real enclosure. Especially if you get a full cockpit enclosure it's like having a whole another room

I talked to the marina operator about getting a new boat but he kept amortizing my likely enjoyment against my remaining actuarial lifespan. It was like going to the doctor. A used boat is appropriate but I really am not using many of these worth-much-less coins anyway. The nearly nude gals lounging on the new boat ads have gained weight and are not as captivating as I remember. Make the best of the situation I guess.
 
I'd find one with an outboard especially if you're going to salt.
 
Maybe I should buy a new boat. There is an Antares 7 in the adjoining slip. Never heard of them before. The nearly naked are well preserved which is only fair. These Beneteau boats apparently devolved from the luxury class where the BS is heavy. Attractive though. Kinda big for a trailer. This is a French company using standard outboards, not Citreon or Peugot powerplants. The models are undoubtedly French. I like the open bow and I should check their line of yacht tenders.

The lady's facial expression at the possibility of using a porta-pottie is quite understandable.

Calling my grandparents thrifty would be an understatement. In their final years the only purchase they made was a U-Haul trailer. However, their plans were foiled because the Hearse did not have a trailer hitch.

I get a kick out of the before-after photos of the girlies in the diet company's adds. Usually the "before" looks better to me.
 
The French put a cushion on the bow of their cuddy. A French couple would need no more! That is an impossible step, even for a young guy in flip flops.

For $70k you can get a really nice 260 Sundeck and about $20k cheaper….. and have resale…. You are not with this underpowered StarCraft
I stopped by the used boat store and they have a 2004 Sundeck 240 for under 30 K and they would take my trade in. Under 500 hrs, a 5.7, a duo-prop with cone clutches. Sales guy claims it has a private area for a porta-potti but I haven't looked. While it would fit in my rental slip, it would not fit in my garage which was always a requirement. I hope Susan just decides to keep the old boat, named after her first pet. Consignment boat so better maintained perhaps.
 
Why do you need a garage You could always put it in at an angle or cover it and leave it outside shrink wrap like most of us do
 
I like to work on it. Meanwhile I found out that the Sundeck 220 has a sometimes plumbed portapotti until 2007 or so. I will look at these and consider another winter hobby. (See "Long Winter on Range") Just using things without disassembling at least once seems odd.
 
The 240SD of that era is one of the most versatile and popular boats Sea Ray has ever made in that category. It performs better than the 220SD of that era and is notably larger (more than what you might think) and has quite a bit more storage.
 
I've read on here that's a 240 did not handle well and it was the worst handling boat can anybody chime in on that because I want to upsize from my 215

Thats the 240 sundancer not the 240 sundeck.
