Hopefully I will be a new owner of a 2005 420 DA by the end of next week. What spare parts and tools should I keep on hand? So far I have been told of the multimeter and impellers. I will continue boating on the Potomac and Chesapeake.

Thanks.

I assume your talking desiel engines? A few just off the top aside from the impellers, Pick up a small tacke box and set yourself up with spare bulbs and fuses and a fuse puller or small pliers. Add a few packs of hose clamps roll of wire plus electrical tape. I'm a list guy so note book and pen / pencil are mandtory. Get a plastic tote box and keep a few quarts of oil and tranny fluid. In the event you are unfoutunatly stranded at the dock, a bottle of fine spirits will help set the delema at hand neatly aside till the next days business hours.
Asumming you have one for the existing boat but, might be time to review whats in your ditch bag moving to a larger vessel. Good luck on the purchase and let us know your outcome!

290 Sundeck to a 420DA with diesels is a big jump. A 420DA with diesels idles at 6 knots. You will need to be about two moves ahead of the boat when you put it in gear.

PM me, I will send you an article I wrote for our local yacht club that talks about spares, tools, etc. I have owned my 420DA for four seasons and have put 500 hours on the boat. Sea Ray got this one right.

Great purchase, great boat. I would carry exta set of fuel filters. I had a need for them this year. Might not always be available when you need them.

Cummins has a spare parts kit - Consists of the racor filters, fuel filter, coolant filter, oil filter, Impellar, thermostat, Starter solenoid, belt, coolant test kit, and factory white paint. Same parts for the onan gennie as well.

Thanks Rocket. I will look into that. It sounds like what I need.

If you do any extended trips I'd carry several sets of fuel filters for both engines and gen. I went through two sets on a trip to the Bahamas this summer. I also carry about 30-40 other items to ensure that my water keeps flowing, ACs stay working, etc. I even carry an extra set of strainer baskets in case I drop one in the water while trying to spray/clean it out.

Congrats!

Regards,
Jason
