New 41 sundancer

Looks like the ~2006-2008 48 Sundancer in profile. Great look!

Not a fan of the windsheild coming all the way up to the hardtop though. It's just too hot in our climate and the cockpit AC doesn't keep up even with the aft canvas in place. An who'd want to have to keep the canvas up all the time anyway?

The main issue I find with the 48 is that even with the cockpit canvas removed, the front windshield vent window open, and/or sun roofs open, it gets very hot inside the cockpit. I bought the drop curtain canvas, completely reworked the Cockpit AC system, and tinted all the glass or in order to make the boat usefull to me. It is possible the 41 is going to have the same issues if they just slap a unit in a cabinet as I feel they did in the 48 and expect it to cool the cockpit with or without the canvas in place. With the hard glass in the front all the way up to the hardtop, it is nothing more than a greenhouse.

You just confirmed my impression... there must be a gap between the windshield and the top!

Air should be able to circulate under the top, from the bow, that's what I obtain opening the front section of my canvas. But today, even in the Mediterranean it seems all the new boats are conceived for cruising in the winter!

SR invented the "reverse sheer." Anyone who emulated it is a follower. Rinker is the latest to convert to this design cue.

You gotta read the book

I have "the book"....good read. I'll be in an early 90's boat for quite a while.....more room for the money, Mike.

Is that the fridge slamed up against the ceiling in the galley? There is no way any of my kids could get drinks out of that thing.

My cockpit fridge is adult drinks only...

Is the 2nd head that tiny door squeezed in next to the fridge? Maybe a good use of space but I'm not so sure I can fit in there?

I definately has that "Euro" feel on the inside. I think the marketing guru's of SR could have picked somebody a little better than that dweeb looking guy driving the boat. I hope that's not who they are catering too! He should be driving a Can Boat.

It's interesting that why with all these years of production and such big competition the new models don't just improve things, why do they have to take some good things away?

I general, it sure looks very modern, stylish and sexy. I like the overall design. It reminds me the 43DA.

It's hard to make much comments based on the picture, but until we see it in person that's the only thing we've got as our baseline. Here are few things I'd like to point out:

Cocpit
I liked the port seating and wet bar arrangement with the grill. Not sure how much of a mess it'll add to the cockpit, but at least it's located right near the transom and shouldn't be too hard to clean.

Hardtop - it's an awsome feature (especially with sunroof), but from what I see in the picture where the guy is sitting there's no way he'll be able to drive standing up. From what it looks headroom clearance is much less than 6', but I could be wrong. I've noticed this is problem in number of Europian brands, including Azimuts. I'm sure it might be acceptible to some folks but I think there's always a need to operate a boat while standing up. Besides a need for better visibility, I can't just sit on the 5-6hrs cruise. I like to change my positions and standing up is defenatelly one of them.

Salon
I have a mixed feeling. SR decided to take a step back and open up the aft cabin creating visual affect of a larger area (like they have in smaller DAs). Despite this approach I feel like older 410 has much more room with the aft cabin behind closed door. If they were to close the aft cabin on this new 410, then we'd be looking at partially gally and huge wall at an angle with TV on it. The cauch looks modern, but I'm sure it's not as comfortable as those in older 410s.

I have to give SR a credit for finally realizing the problem and placing large sinks in the heads.

I guess we all can see the trend how designers try to fix the "cave" effect and try to introduce as much natural lighting as possible. But, this is where we go back to our discussion on the large side windows below rubrail.

Things I like:
  • Great mix of classic and modern lines
  • two stateroom – two head lay-out (I wish I had it in my old 390)
  • guest/day head with independent entrance (why many boats have the guest/day head in the guestroom???)
  • main head with adjoined shower (shower should not be on the other side of the cabin or aisle!)
  • Possibility of V-drives
  • Smaller side hull windows (large trendy portholes scare me!)
Don’t like:
  • Stern sunpad…sun lovers belong to the bow! I would prefer an even larger cockpit.
  • Hard top with no gap on the windshield edge. I would like more ventilation.
Sum-up:

I agree with most of what you like/dislike except:
  • I LOVE having the head and shower separated. It's one of my favorite features of the new boat. It evens out the layout of the salon so that the couch doesn't directly face the head wall, which makes the salon feel narrow and confined. I also like using the shower as a day-closet for duffle bags, towels, etc. without all that stuff being out in the open as with my old 400EC shower. We just move the stuff out when in use. Also, I like that it's really big in there (I'm 6'2" 230) and gives me some elbow room. Finally, I can be showering while my wife's using the vanity in the bathroom. I really want them to keep this feature.
  • I like the large side windows. I hate feeling like I'm in a cave down there.
Overall I think it's a very nice boat. I'm looking forward to seeing one in person
