New 250 SLX

I just stumbled across a BoatTest video on the 2015 250 SLX -- they indicated the ski tower is standard. Also, the boat they tested had the 350 -- the testers were happy with it.

The ski tower/ radar arch may cause clearance problems when the boat is in the lift. As I stated the boat will be stored in an covered slip with a powered lift the boat would be out of the water but the lower part of the out drive will be in the water at full pond and during the winter I like to get the boat a high as possible.

No the ski tower is a option. Picture of the Bryant, lake is down over a foot.

Doing a little research on the 8.2 vs the 5.7, when you purchase a new boat it not just Sea Ray but all manufactures. It seems when you up grade your engine they give you almost zero for the stock engine that comes with the boat and you are paying for. A new 5.7 300HP with warranty is between $8000.00 and $9000.00 and a new 8.2 is between $14000.00 and $15000.00. Too upgrade to the 8.2 is almost $14000.00, I aim rounding of the numbers.

Engine prices http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/310421751852?lpid=82 Prices similar were.

I thought this was interesting, I’m still not sure the 5.7 is big enough for the 250 most riding will with between 6 and 8 adults.

99% of the time I had 4 people aboard -- even with a full tank and a couple coolers -- 300HP was more than adequate. But, that of course is a personal opinion. The 250 jumped up on plane and ran out to the low/mid 40's with that load. Things happen very fast on the water at 40 MPH.

Shortcut,

Great looking Boathouse - very nice. If you are planning on keeping the 250 for a long time, I would still go with the 8.2L/502. I understand, your concern about spending the extra $$$. However, as a % of the purchase price the upgrade is a bit more palatable. I would negotiate on the price of the engine upgrade as well. I think you will have a very quiet boat with SR's quiet ride technology (I haven't been on one yet) with either engine and look foward to your first report. Once again, congrats.

Shortcut,

I just sent you a PM...... I just traded our 2007 250 SLX at SML Yacht Club....

If I can't sell my 2006 Bryant 236 in like new condition I'll be trading that. I have until the boat comes in to sell it

I just read this thread and I'll chime in. I used to work in a boat shop. People always came in and wanted more power. If you can swing it, go for the larger motor. You will get your money back many times. The 350 may be "fine" or "adequate" but who are you going to complain to if it isn't.

"There is no substitute for horse power"

Strake -- What did you trade for?

we ordered a 2015 Berkshire Tri Toon (with a lot of options) with a 200 Yamaha...... just ready for a change.... LOVED the 250 SLX for many reasons, and hope I don't end up with regret later on, but wanted to go with the toon. Have been riding on a friends tri toon many times in the past year and saw a lot of reasons why it might suit us better on the lake. With severe back issues ( spinal surgery next Wednesday) I just don't climb on and off of a bow rider as I did a couple of years ago.

As we had the Captain's call Exhaust on the SLX and I used it frequently, calling it my instant testosterone booster, I've found a solution for the new Tri Toon with the Yamaha....... I recorded a You Tube of someone's boat with the straight exhaust on my iPhone and the new Toon is ordered with an upgraded Stereo with Amp and Sub Woofer...... I'll role up to the dock to pick up friends and hit the "PLAY" button on the recorded exhaust sound through the stereo for a few laughs......

I just ordered a 2015 SLX and joined this forum so this is my first post. I have about a week to make my final accessories list the only one I'm not sure of is the motor. The dealer said I'll be fine with the 350 300 hp. The 250 is a fairly heavy boat compared to my Bryant 236 by about 1100 lbs. the 350 in that works real good in than. I'm looking for some advice 350 or 496 is the 496 worth the money and how much fuel will it burn over the 350. Thanks for any advice in advance.

Shortcut,

I was at the SML Yacht Club yesterday looking at our new Berkshire TriToon that just came in special ordered ( waiting on the Yamaha 200 engine to arrive) and asked Lee and Jeff about your new 250 SLX...... glad to hear you decided to go with the 496 engine..... you won't regret it !!! We loved ours and it was always trouble free. You will notice a huge difference putting 8 people aboard vs just 2 or 3 and you'll be glad you've got more available power. The trim tabs also make it so simple to always keep the boat level regardless of where people sit.

Apparently, they've already sold our 250 SLX that we traded in and the new buyer has taken possession, although it's still listed on Boat Trader. I know what neighborhood our 250 went to so once we're back on the water, I'll have to go check up on it.

Enjoy your new boat...... sounds like you should be getting it pretty soon. Did they give you a date?

I should be getting the boat in a few weeks it scheduled to go on line on Nov.3 can't wait. It was a hard decision to go with the 502 but changed the order at the last second Jeff and Lee treated me good and got the order change in just in time (my fault). The person I sold my Bryant to picked the boat up the other day now my dock looks bare now, it's had a boat in it for the past 9 years.

I was there last Saturday picking up our new boat and asked Jeff if yours was in yet...... he said it was shipping this week. I'll be back at the SML Yacht Club getting my SS prop put on tomorrow afternoon (Sat) and I'll look for your boat. If you're around would enjoy meeting you..... I'll be there at 2 pm for a little bit.
Congratulations !!!! You'll love it, and also be glad you went for the big block. I had no regrets.

On a 26' 6" boat a cockpit sink is not very useful compared to additional seating.

Is this a common sentiment? The 280 is only 1' longer and we use the sink constantly. We put more emphasis on eating and drinking than tubing and skiing though. We stock a pairing knife (ya gotta be able to cut limes), a cutting board and the kind of plastic-wear that you can throw out, but is also worth washing. I like not having to worry about packing every detail necessary to spend a comfortable day cruising or on the hook, so washing a few plastic forks is usually worth the trouble. I also use the sink sprayer to rinse salt and sand out of the cockpit. The later 280's kept the sink, but reduced the counter and storage cabinet - even that would be a problem. I guess we put a LOT of emphasis on eating and drinking...

The fresh water system on our 250 SLX was never used. Didn't need the fresh water rinse off hose on the swim platform being on a fresh water lake and as for the sink, it was only used to be a handy spot to put suntan lotion, etc..... we just took what liquid stuff we had in a cooler.

It's Here I picked it up Saturday afternoon. This boat is fast with the 8.2 and the Quit Ride really works it was to late to do much riding but so far I'm loving it. Trying to post pictures but not doing to good I'll try after Thanksgiving. Whats the max size of the picture allowed?
