Went to MarineMax Clearwater today to pick up our 38DA, they were doing my bottom paint, hull wax and install B60 Transducer.....and some warranty work, replace shaft seals, small gel coat void and fuel coolant water hose replacement. They do nice work.......anyway. The gel coat guy actually repaired one of my dinks N. C., and was nice enought to point me to the new 2010 390DA in the water a couple slips over from ours.

I went through the 390DA and it is exactly the same boat as the 38DA except the mid cabin TV is 22" Sharp instead on the 20", the rear cabin TV is 17" instead of 15" and the AC vents are different. The MSRP is almost $550K with 8.1L gas V drives...ouch!!!!

I am trying to remember in 08 - I thought I remember it was in the low 400's for a 380.

The 2008 MSRP was in the $450K range. Sorry no pictures, but the new 390DA looks exactly like the 38DA

In actuality, If you really consider the design, engineering, man-hours, equipment and materials that make that 390DA and then imagine what it would cost you to create one, $550,000 isn't such a large number. If you had the ability to make and sell 1,000 of them that number decreases, but not by half. What would it cost to make one in your back yard?

Sorry...I will have to disagree. When it costs more to make a boat than a 4,000 SF House, we either have too much money or have lost sense with reality.

Apples and oranges. You can't build a boat out of lumber and drywall, although some on this site have made repairs with building materials. Didn't get them far.

Now, if you're comparing the price of a boat to a house and this is what you have in mind when you think boat:

then, you are spot on.

There was a 390 at the Cleveland show this year. It's a nice boat. Less usable space below because of the separate shower as compared to our 360, but that's an acceptable trade off if having a separate shower compartment is what you want. The head being forward opens the mid cabin area up nice. The admiral gave it a thumbs down because she couldn't reach the microwave without standing on the bottom stair. I told her I would open the microwave for her if I could have the hard top:thumbsup:
The prices sure do seem crazy to me too, but if you can part with that kind of cash, go for it. Someone needs to buy 'em new so the rest of us can buy 'em used.
The Zeus equipt version is 4000 pounds heavier than the v-drive. That's some heavy machinery.:wow:

The 450DA at the Atlanta Boat Show had 8.1 Stern Drives. About 12' of unused space in the ER forward of the engines. I was amazed to see that large of a boat with gas stern drives...$800,000 if I remember right.

I thought it was a bit of a stretch to put stern drives on the 390DA, but I just confirmed on the Sea Ray website that 4/5 of the propulsion choices for the 450 are stern drives. Sea Ray is putting a lot of confidence in the 496/BIII. The boat is 10,000# heavier than mine with the same propulsion package! That would be like my boat towing my old boat as a tender. Either those engines are going to need replacement at 800 hrs, or my engines are going to last 5000 hrs.
