Nice boat and nice price!

Any shots of the rear deck?

Real nice looking. Good luck with it. Sharp interior. Show some shots of cockpit, engine compartment etc. I just bought a 85 260da. In progress. Matt.

I sure like those old 260's. I have friends and family with them as well. All told, we have 4 among us.

Those old 260's are getting harder and harder to find. They do make great boats. It is amazing how durable the interiors are. Also, for those that may not know, the hull below the rubrail was identical for all the 260's of that vintage.

how do you like your 83 with the 502 bb in it?? was it hard to repower??

I love the way the 502 runs. In fact, I like that motor better than the 496's in the 310. The swap is not very complicated, but the engine clears in front and on the top by a very small margin. The closed cooling and EMI headers narrowed the margin even more.

That's a great boat for long weekends. Enough room for the kids to sleep inside. Room to cook and eat no matter the weather. Potty for the girls. I still like the Weekender for the cock pit room. The Sundancer is tight up above. You have the same rear set up as ours. When we go out for a week the extra weight is obvious - slow to get up on plane!

Keokie - 502? How many hp comes out of that??? Is it a GM motor?

The 502 EFI and BIII was purchased directly from Mercruiser. It is a GM motor that is marinized by Merc. The internals are forged. It is rated at 415 hp at the props. More to my liking is the 530 lb/ft of torque. I added EMI headers and Merc' switchable Silent Thunder Exhaust. They combine for a claimed 40-50 more horsepower. I'd have to see that on a dyno to believe it.

The set up does run very strong, though.

Wow, that ought to make a 260 jump up and go. How many gallons per hour?

That's a nice looking boat!

Quick question...

What is this thing on the helm? Older GPS unit or something?

Just curious.

Cheers,

The fuel consumption is about the same as the 350 it replaced. At no wake speeds it uses slightly more, at cruising speeds it uses a little less. All the way up the cruising range it gets between 2 and 2.5 mpg (slightly better than the 350). The mileage falls off a bit at the higher RPM's, but I rarely run it there, and it is travelling far beyond the speeds the 350 was even capable.

What I like best, is it will cruise faster and more efficiently at 3000 rpm than the 350 would at 3800.

I did all the work, but it was expensive. The motor and drive came brand new from Mercruiser. I purchased through a high perf marine service company that I have worked with for years. I did get a bit of an inside deal and traded two other marine motors (350, and older 454 Mag) so there were a lot of factors.

Merc's list price at the time was around 28K. I did a good bit better, but it was still quite expensive.

After the motor, I bought a new trailer, canvas, upholstery, added a pumpout head, and windlass, etc., etc., etc. So, I have a ridiculous amount of money in her. I planned on having this boat for a very long time. As things change, I will probably sell her, and take a bath. Oh well.

"A boat is a hole in the water to throw your money in."

Hopefully things won't change and you'll keep her for a long time.

I enjoy working on them and making improvements too.
