New 185 Sport

Hey all,

Just purchased a 2010 185 Sport, well will sign the paperwork on Wed. next week but the boat is mine.

I know that the engine has a 2 year warranty on it but Sea Ray is offering a 4 year extension for $850 making the warranty 6 years total. Is it worth it?

Mercury provides a one year window to extend the warranty on the engine and sterndrive for up to 5 more years (for a total of 7). So you don't have to make the decision now if you aren't sure. I just signed up for 3 more years at the end of my first year, for a total of 5 years. Its an insurance policy for catastrophic factory issues. There are so many moving parts under stress in a stern drive that I decided to extend the warranty.

This had come up a couple times. It all depends on your comfort level about risk. $850 is nothing in boating. You know what boats stands for don't you?? (B)reak (O)ut (A)nother (T)housand. (Grin) Plus IMHO it nice to have for resell.
Okay you may be able to help on another question. What is the 1st four letters of your hull Id #. There is another thread we were talking about the plant that the new 185s are made it. The older one where made at SERV (Vonore, TN).

I don't have the Hull ID on me at the moment I'll have to check the and see if the write up has it listed.

The plan given was a Liberty Protection Plan administered by MPP (Mechanical Protection Plan) I'm trying to look up any information about it to make sure that they are a good company.

I know what "boat" stands for, my parents you to say they were a hole in the water you throw money in. lol

For what you paid for the boat is peanuts. If you financed the thing it will add a couple dollars to the payment. I'd do it just for the peace of mind.
