Gents,

Well I took my boat out for it's first trip this past Sat. We had a great time. I got lots of complements about the boat. Good times..

Looks like you had a good time. Where are you at? Is that a lake you are on?
Again one good look boat.

That is a beautiful boat indeed! I can see where the compliments came from!

As a new owner myself, I am proud that I spent the extra buck getting a higher quality boat.

Just a question for those with the new 185 Sea Rays.....do you get any water in the hull during regular use?

I posted this question elsewhere but no response yet.

I bought a 1996 175 just two weeks ago and the bilge will shoot out about 3-4 seconds of water when I turn it on after boating around for about an hour at mixed speeds.

Doesn't seem like a lot of water but is this normal? I'd rather avoid hauling it into the city from the lake to get it looked at for such a small ammount of water.....although in the fall I'd be more willing to when its getting ready for storage. Just don't want to be risking anything.

Thanks.

We do get water in it, but most is probably from us swimming and getting back on the boat. We also have our cooler in the back with the plug open to drain the water as the ice melts. You might check the drain plug. I guess you could use the plumbing tape to seal it and see if it helps.

I was on a lake in Central Florida.. called the Lake Butler.. Same lake Shaq O has a 50,000 SQFT house on. I have almost no water in the hull that day. Your prob getting a leak some place in the back..

I guess I should have added that the boat did not come with the stock drain plug. I had to purchase a replacement (and its a generic 3/4" male threaded plug).

It fits in there nice and snug but I'm not sure if there's a different plug that I should be using. I do not have a local Sea Ray dealer up here but I did call the closest one.....the useless parts guy was trying to tell me that the computer was showing a plug that had a piece on the inside of the hull as well as on the outside......is this accurate?

If so, I am using the wrong plug perhaps. However, this parts guy was having serious trouble reading the images on his screen and obviously did not have alot of personal experience with the boats.

I had a '95 185 Sea Ray, and had to change the bellows because there was water coming in, it's a normal thing for a boat that age to have the rubber that the bellows are made of (I think there are 3 different bellows, drive, shifting and exhaust - correct me here if I'm wrong here folks - I think that's what they are) that will crack from age and normal use after about 5-6 yrs or so, in fresh water.

It depends on how much is coming in, and if you leave it docked or trailered overnight. The bilge pump in my boat didn't have a float switch, it was manual only. If I was leaving it on the water, I'd make sure it has an extra battery and a float switch, and maybe a secondary bilge pump/switch for when/ if the first fails.

The only water being introduced into the boat is from guests getting out of the water and into the boat.

Thats hilarious!! We are out there usually on sundays..

First off, I'm glad to see a nice turn out of 185 owners. As we just bought ours 6 weeks ago.

Secondly, I am having a fit with the hull design also. The center compartment will fill up with water from the bilge conpartment (or vise versa) (even with the cheap plug in). So, it holds water before the pump runs on automatic. I found out the drain to the center compartment is even with the bottom of the boat. Our last boat was an older Stingray and the bottom of the center compartment was higher than the bilge and bottom of the boat so I never had this problem..

I just picked up my new 185 on saturday and on my test drive at the marina i couldn't get back fast enough to sign the papers. I love the fact that the boat i got had the 4.3mpi. The only thing it didnt come with was the tower.

I dont get that much water in the boat at all, unless I hosed the boat out or my coolers drain.

Normally I don't get alot of water in either area. We stayed a week at a lake in WV a few weeks ago and left the boat beached without covering it, and, of course a storm rolled in one night and it rained several hours. That's when I found out about the poor design.
